Music enthusiasts of Brazilian rock can now rejoice. The “Brazilian Nuggets, Back from the Jungle” four volume series, 72 tracks, previously buried in obscurity and dust, has been meticulously curated to showcase the best of Brazil’s aggressive and unhinged Garage Rock from the 1960s and 1970s. 

For a considerable number of years, committed researchers and collectors have been diligently discovering the most unique and lesser-known aspects of Brazilian rock from this time. This meticulous task has been made possible by the priceless and invaluable efforts of various individuals. Many releases were regional, pressed in small quantities and became instant rarities. If it wasn´t for the record collectors themselves, generally known only to a handful of collectors, these would have been lost forever. The tracks included in “Brazilian Nuggets” primarily originate from obscure bands. Listeners will discover the wildest and most aggressive strains of garage, psych, and unconventional rock ‘n’ roll, released by lesser-known Brazilian record labels such as California Records, RCS, Fama, Leão Disc, Young, Inspiração, and Tema, among others. it gathers oddities, surf, beat, fuzz and other weirdo stuff. 

The music from this era was crafted for intimate gatherings, resonating deeply with those who experienced it. Musicians, armed with their affordable guitars, channeled their youthful energy and emotions into their creations, becoming pioneers of modern advanced Brazilian music. Their work, born out of passion and resilience, marked the beginning of a new chapter in the music scene. As one musician eloquently expressed in his self-titled single, “the journey of music is endless…”

The compilation features excellent artwork by Darren Merrinuk .  I hope volumes are in the works as they promise to bring even more obscure and psych fuzz tracks to the fore.
