HAWKWIND
Hawkwind - Space Ritual (50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition) [2023] (10 x CDs)
Hawkwind are an English rock band known as one of the earliest space rock groups. Since their formation in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and have incorporated many different styles into their music, including hard rock, progressive rock and psychedelic rock. They are regarded as an influential proto-punk band. Their lyrics often cover themes of urban life and science fiction.
Many musicians, dancers and writers have worked with the band since their inception. Notable musicians who have performed in Hawkwind include Lemmy, Ginger Baker, Robert Calvert, Nik Turner and Huw Lloyd-Langton, but the band are most closely associated with their singer, songwriter and guitarist Dave Brock, who founded the band and is the only remaining original member. Hawkwind are best known for the song "Silver Machine", which became a number three UK hit single in 1972, and they had further chart singles with "Urban Guerrilla" (another top 40 hit) and "Shot Down in the Night". The band had a run of twenty-two of their albums charting in the UK from 1971 to 1993, and another eight between 2012 and 2023. (Wikipedia)
The Hawkwind - Space Ritual (50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition) [2023] is a monumental tribute to Hawkwind, a band that has significantly shaped the rock music genre. This box set celebrates the golden jubilee of their groundbreaking live album, “Space Ritual,” which was first unveiled in 1973.
“Space Ritual” is frequently recognized as one of the greatest live albums in the annals of rock music. The impeccable sound quality captures the essence of the performances and the fluid transition between songs. The album was a product of their tour in December 1972, which was initiated after the triumph of their hit single, “Silver Machine,” and to endorse the “Doremi Fasol Latido” album.
The quintessential Hawkwind sound in “Space Ritual” evokes imagery of a spaceship journeying through the vast expanse of the universe, guided by Captain Nik Turner and Baron Dave Brock. The pulsating rhythms from Simon King and the resonating bass from Lemmy create an auditory illusion of a cosmic engine room, while other instruments intertwine. The tracklist, primarily sourced from “Doremi Fasol Latido” and “X In Search Of Space,” is enriched with Bob Calvert’s poetic verses.
The 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition, launched in 2023, invites fans to revisit the enchantment of “Space Ritual” with a fresh perspective. The box set comprises a Super Deluxe 10CD + Blu-Ray set. The 2023 stereo remix by Stephen W Tayler adds a new dimension to the original, enhancing the spatial effects and offering a more immersive auditory experience.
In summary, the Hawkwind - Space Ritual (50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition) [2023] is a fitting homage to a band that has etched its name in the annals of rock music. It provides an opportunity for both seasoned and new fans to immerse themselves in the raw energy and pioneering sound that has cemented Hawkwind’s status as a rock music legend. (B)

Yup, Hawkwind the true Masters Of The Universe. I bow down.
ReplyDeleteSaw them live at The Academy of Music in 1974, NYC. Loudest concert I have ever heard. My ears were still ringing the next morning. Saw Stacia too. OMG. <3
ReplyDeleteGrteat post thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteSensory overload - thanks BB
ReplyDeleteI freely admit that aside from "Silver Machine" and "Motörhead" I know nothing else from this band. THis album seems to be lauded far and wide, though I've never bothered to pick it up.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for this Hawkwind set Butterboy, it is very much appreciated.....Hawkwind was my first gig way back on the 4th of September 1972 and have seen them many times over the years. They made a big impression on this 15 year old at the time with their Space Rock and old fashioned light show ( Liquid wheels & Oil dishes etc )......oh! and Stacia the dancer with her ample charms......Thanks again.....Love & Peace Stu
