PLANET EARTH MUSIC - AFRICAN CHRISTMAS. ... Approx. 60 downloads, not a single word of "Thank You". Well, not with me. If you can`t show respect, you won`t get any freebies from me. The album is no longer available for you guys. ... I`m also closing down my blog soon because of the disrespect and ignorance. If you take something, you can at least say "Thanks" for it. This is called RESPECT. But it seems, no one knows this word nowadays anymore. ... Anyways, this is just my opinion. If everyone else is happy with sharing for "nothing", go on and have fun. ... It`s goodbye from me for good ...
ReplyDeleteLots of wisdom in your words, BB, even if I also understand Dirk's anger. It's not easy to sort things out, but I would complete BB's words by saying that by posting my compilations, I expect nothing other than people's pleasure in listening to them, not necessarily comments. Comments are obviously a plus for me, but not a goal in themselves. Not easy to admit when it represents a lot of work, but the discovery of new music remains the main motivation... Thank you Dirk for your necessary message and thank you BB for your incredible wisdom.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Herve.
DeleteI do totally understand his frustration. But there are better ways to make that know. Walking away from the playground does himself a disservice. I hope he settles and returns. Expectations can at times be a curse especially when they are not met.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for contributing to a community that thrives on the love of music.
Cheers.
I'm sorry to hear that you feel that way Dirk. Everyone likes to feel appreciated. I've had some compilations with close to 2,000 downloads and not a peep from anyone. It's just the way it is - I figure the numbers reflect interest. I think that sometimes people will download meaning to leave a remark after listening and then forget (I'm guilty of that one). Thanks for sharing your frustration, I'm sure that some others feel the same.
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone who has commented on this. It gives me the power to continue. Though I won`t create a new blog for myself again, but I will frequently post on here as my "new home". It`s good to have some friends on here. Thanks again for cheering me up. Much appreciated. See you all next weekend again. ... And by the way, even though I haven`t downloaded anything, great work to all of you.
ReplyDeleteIn radio, I learned early on that if you get one phone call during your show, there are thousands of others who also enjoy your show, but will never call you. If I had a blog and people stopped downloading, that would tell me that my blog sucked. Here, I'm always amazed by the variety - and sometimes something is posted here that hits such a good nerve that I have to say something - but generally, I can' say enough times how much I enjoy this wonderful collection - not just of tunes, but "ideas" too - actual thought going into arranging compilations of certain styles especially. So, expecting rah-rahs - even on my radio show - is not something I strive for, but just the introduction of things that may be new (even if "old") to people gives me such joy. The time to fret just might be when you're completely ignored.
ReplyDeleteHi Rod Stasick.
DeleteYour perspective on radio and blogging is insightful. It's true that often, the silent majority appreciates the content without expressing it. The variety and thoughtfulness in the compilations here are indeed remarkable, and it's wonderful to see how they resonate with different people. I am proud of all the contributors and extremely pleased that I provided a format for them to contribute to this series in the first place.
I am delighted that you find joy in exploring these discoveries. The real concern, as you mentioned, is when there's complete silence and no engagement at all.
Cheers.
Thanks again for all the great words to lift me up. Here`s the link to my new (and hopefully final) blog ... for everyone who is interested in it ... https://music-of-planet-earth-2024.blogspot.com/ ... Enjoy.
