KRAUTROCK
VA - Electric Junk, A Journey Through Deutsche Rock, Psych and Kosmische 1970-1978 [2025] (4 x CDs)
If you're intrigued by the boundary-pushing sounds of 1970s German rock, then Electric Junk: A Journey Through Deutsche Rock, Psych and Kosmische 1970-1978 is a deep and rewarding listen. This 4-CD box set, curated by Cherry Red Records, a sonic archive, mapping the evolution of krautrock and experimental music during a time of cultural upheaval and artistic revolution.
This set brings together an impressive lineup, featuring Tangerine Dream, Faust, Popol Vuh, and Klaus Schulze, alongside lesser known yet equally visionary acts such as Guru Guru, Eloy, Jane, and Electric Sandwich. These musicians weren’t merely performers; they were sonic architects, building vast soundscapes that transcended conventional rock. Their work blurred genres, weaving together elements of psychedelia, jazz, ambient, and avant-garde electronics, resulting in a uniquely German countercultural movement.
One of the most compelling aspects of this box set is its extensive liner notes, which serve as a guided tour through this pioneering scene. It’s an intellectual exercise as much as a listening experience; an invitation to explore how music can challenge perceptions, expand consciousness, and redefine artistic expression.
If you appreciate music that dares to be different, this collection is a fascinating document of a movement that reshaped the sonic landscape. (B)

ReplyDeleteGracias!!!
Hi Mirta,
DeleteA compilation can sometimes feel like familiar territory, but as you pointed out, hearing the tracks in a different sequence brings a fresh perspective.
Cheers.
