Lo-fi music includes sounds that would normally be considered imperfections in the context of a professional studio recording.
Examples include misplayed notes, a degraded quality, audible tape edits, and background noises (coughing, laughing, chair squeaks, passing cars, machine humming ...). The standards of lo-fi have evolved throughout the decades and the term itself only began to describe a style of music in the 1990s. Daniel Johnston (1961 – 2019), Elliott Smith (1969 – 2003), Mark Linkous (1962 – 2010)(Sparklehorse), Beck Hansen (1970), Bill Callahan (1966)(Smog) & Will Oldham (1970)(Palace Music, Palace Brothers, Bonnie Prince Billy) are just a few of the brilliant authors who established themselves through their lo-fi approach to music, in the late 1980s and early nineties. Maybe some of the selected songs don't fit the lo-fi standards, but who cares ;)

Given that it is April 2026, it means it is just about time to release my selections for the best songs of 2025. The selections here are not based on any algorithms or popularity data. It comes from a good old fashioned auditory rating experience using an iPod Nano 4g. The songs used here were all 5 star ratings, according to my ears. My choices attempted to include the widest variety of artists.
The first two compilations will consist of songs with vocals, while the third will be entirely instrumental. Warning – There is an eclectic mix of genres.
Reminder - For the main release, each download will have two folders: "Formatted" & "Original tags & artwork". The music in each folder is identical - the only thing that differs is imbedded tagging and artwork.

Only Various Artists compilations will be accepted.
Only one compilation per week from each contributor with a limit of 25 tracks per track list per submission. (Total 25 tracks only). You can submit a new track list the following week.
The Topic is your choice, Genre is your choice and any music is acceptable. (If readers don't like the topic or choices then they don't have to pick them up)
When presenting your submission, the Topic of your compilation should be Noted as well as the sound quality of the compilation. (i.e., 320Kbps MP3, Flac, etc).
Whilst most would prefer MP3's @ 320 kbps all I request is a good sound quality.
A track list must be supplied together with a LINK for your Compilation. (Please do not send the compressed file)
Artwork is not necessary but would be welcomed. All submissions need to arrive via email to:
