Guess Who - The Ultimate Collection [1997] (3 x CD's)

GUESS WHO

Guess Who - The Ultimate Collection [1997] (3 x CD's)

The "Ultimate Collection" is the ultimate Guess Who music experience. This is basically their anthology. 3 CD's, 221 minutes of classic Guess Who. Every track is built around the A and B sides of singles, with album cuts salted in between. The highlights are scattered throughout  "American Woman," of course; "Rain Dance," with its unnerving echoes of American massacres, the funky, improvised live "Truckin' Off Across the Sky," even the goofy "Clap for the Wolfman," which came when the Guess Who were all but finished. Also an interesting previously unreleased take rehearsal of "No Sugar Tonight/Mother Nature.  In addition to being an accomplished band, the Guess Who possessed one of rock's great voices in Burton Cummings. He had a very distinctive and very compelling style, and some of the lyrics that surfaced in these songs were very moving and memorable. Sonically these tracks sound great. (Amazon)
