BOB DYLAN (A Double Dose)
Bob Dylan - Man On The Street Vol. 01 [2017] + Vol. 02 [2019] (20 x CD's)
These 20 CD's pulls together most of Dylan's early radio and previously bootlegged performances in one place. The only flaw of these 2 box set dedicated to Dylan is its total absence of booklet which would have made it possible to have additional information on the recordings (we just have on each CD the bare minimum: the date, the place and the possible distribution of the record).
On the other hand, the music is extraordinary! These CD's seem to have been given some kind of upgrade and to these ears sound a million times better than the individual ones I have already purchased. I don't know whether they've found better tapes or just cleaned up the recordings but the difference is pretty astonishing. These are amazing, quality recordings from 1961, 1962 and that's just CD1 - CD4, I'm thinking Mr. Dylan himself could be behind this breathtaking collection. The Cynthia Gooding radio interview of January '62 is wonderful. The CD covers have a "Reel to Reel" on a tape deck and these could be from original recordings; they are certainly better than what I had heard of his genius with lyrics, guitar, and harmonica at this point in his career. Thank you for this wonderful gift whoever is behind it. I'm taking CD4 out to the car next time I go somewhere and i'm gonna listen to it over and over but maybe I'll take CD 8 too. (Amazon)
As a Dylan fan since I was about 14 years old and bought my first album these compilations not only exceeded my expectations but also very emotional for me. To hear young (very young) Dylan at the very beginning of his career, it is incredible to hear the budding genius develop. Totally love it. Highly recommended to anyone who loves Dylan and has never and will never tire of his beautiful words and poetry and music.

Wow - thanks for the monster set! I will enjoy listening to these wiht improved audio...
ReplyDeleteQuestion - What do people do with the 128x128 cover that you include? I use a PC...
thnaks,
Mike M
Hi Mike,
DeleteEnjoy the Dylan.
The 128x128 pic is an Icon file i create for my purposes.
I use it to make the the folder that the files are placed in appear as the album cover in my folder manager. I use windows/PC. To change the folder Icon just go to folder properties, choose the customize tab, them choose Change Icon, then locate the icon file provided and then OK and then OK again to close the folder properties. Your folder will have the icon file you chose. I also have my folders viewed in large size. It looks great. or simply delete it
Cheers.
Hello,
ReplyDeletewhen you read his chronicles or Robert Shelton’s book, all you want is
to listen to his first albums, and even to look at the recordings
by Woody Guthrie. With his compilations here, from your comment I can’t wait to listen.
We had a singer in France , composer and poet (like Dylan), it’s Georges Brassens, many
similarity for me with the Dylan between 1962 and 1964...
THANK YOU Butterboy!
Hi Patrick,
DeleteOne of the pleasures I get from this blog is seeing people, like yourself, who appreciate what is posted. I also enjoy it when a blog visitor shares their experience about the post.
Thank you.
Cheers.
"anyone who loves Dylan and has never and will never tire of his beautiful words and poetry and music"
ReplyDeleteCount me in that group. Thanks for this set.
Hi lemonflag,
DeleteToo many people focus on his voice. There are so many mores reason to enjoy his works. Whilst I thing its a good voice it is always the written story or poetry he shares that excites. He gives us a lot to think about. He continues to be relevant. BB likes BD ...
Cheers.
I've had all of these for decades, but never in one place, arranged so nicely!
ReplyDeleteButterboy, as always, your generosity is overwhelming, thank you!
Hi Gummo,
DeleteYou have experience this wonderful music before so you know it value to the listener. I hope these recordings are of a better quality for you compared to past boots.
Cheers.
Awesome!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing all these impressive volumes of early Dylan performances!
Cheers
Thanks Il Commendatore.
DeleteEnjoy the mammoth amount of Dylan here. It a real experience and journey.
Cheers.
Did not expect you to post so soon, thanks so much, glad you enjoyed Likerish Quartet, need to find the LP now
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Rob.
DeleteIf you come across the Likerish Quartet please drop a link.
Cheers.

DeleteCheers.
lemonflag, thanks for the links, super helpful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Butter, for what looks to be a very rewarding-to-hear set. Somehow I missed out on any real exposure to Dylan until maybe 1979 ("Slow Train Coming"), and so never became a devoted fan. Yet I like a good number of his recordings, and this collection should help me in giving his earlier years a fair shake.
ReplyDeleteHi Aging Child.
DeleteAfter Elvis (no poetry just sublime voice), there was The Beatles (poetry and blues) whom changed my world. Soon after I was introduced to Dylan (Poet, Thinker and activist) and my view on many things changed. He is one of the reasons I have such an eclectic taste in music. I understand your comment about Dylan. He has so many great songs in his catalog and those are favorites of everyone. His other material is what attracts me most. These historical taped recordings are worth the journey.
Cheers.
Cheers.
...and I thank you for sharing this, Butter. I really dislike having a blind spot (well, deaf spot) for so big and influential a person. There's nothing that he's recorded and released, that I've heard, that I don't like... I've just listened to, and listened for, too little of it. Here's clearly a good place to start.
DeleteMany thanks for this. Like yourself I already have most of these recordings scattered all over the place, so it's certainly good to now have them together under one roof, and in better audio quality.
ReplyDeleteHi Bob Mac,
DeleteIts so good to have them all together in order. No need to tell how good these are.
Cheers.
I've never liked the tag "singer-songwriter", as in the case of Dylan and others, I prefer to honor the music and message before the performance, and reverse it to "songwriter-singer".
ReplyDeleteHi Nancty McClelland,
DeleteRegardless of the genre I just like the music, the memories it evokes, the sound that it inspires and the words that or shared. Bob Dylan does all of that.
Hope you enjoy the sets here.
Cheers.
Hi, Butterboy! Many thanks for posting the recordings. They're truly amazing and I was lucky enough to find them here. I've got the physical Vol. 2 CD but couldn't find so far Vol.1 so I'm really happy to be able to enjoy it here. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHi Dylanesque.
DeleteThat is great to hear. No need for me to mention his greatness.
Cheers.
Incredible Collection of Live music from the master songwriter and poet laureate of my generation. I saw his tour with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, so glad it is included in this set. Also his appearance on the David Letterman show is remarkable. Stupendous. Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteHi Richard Bock.
DeleteThese two box sets are hard to beat. Such mastery.
Cheers.
