BOOGIE ROCK
VA - Blessed is the Boogie (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2+CD3
Boogie rock is a genre of rock music which came out of the hard heavy blues rock of the late 1960's and early 1970's. Instead of emphasizing instrumental improvisation like the original blues-rock bands, boogie rockers concentrate on the groove, working a steady and chugging back beat, often in shuffle time. Largely designed for dance parties, it tends to feature a repetitive driving rhythm in place of instrumental experimentation found in the more progressive blues-rock bands of the period. Nearly every band in the style played the same 4/4 tempo, the main distinction between the groups was their instrumental attack, since some groups played heavier than others.
The tracks presented here highlight this more driving guitar based repetitive boogie style. Some of these are well known others may be new, most from the mid to late 60's, 70's and through to current times where boogie rock is having a resurgence with people finding that distinctive chugga-chugga boogie beat irresistible. Here are 75 outstanding Boogie rock tracks. Enjoy!

As Always Another great comp. I was wondering why no Savoy Brown and there is a great group called Incredible Hog who has nice stuff that could be in this comp. one last thing have you thought about a comp of Krautrock from 1970-1975 it would be neat to see what you pick for it Thanks for all your fine posts on this wonderful blog
ReplyDeleteHi doors97426,
DeleteThere is so much good boogie rock available. I did conciser a 4th Cd which would have include the groups you mention but alas they didn't make the cut this time.
I have a great selection of Krautrock music but have not tried to put together a compilation as yet. The "Krautrock Music For Your Brain" series is great and cant really be bettered. I have posted all volumes previously. I like the idea though to try a Krautrock set. you never know...
Thank for you kind words.
Cheers.
I just listen to Incredible Hog's '73 album track "Lame" again and agree it would have fit nicely on here. Thanks. Volume 4 will see them as the first track.
DeleteCheers.
Hi BB, nice one for these days, thanks = Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHi Coffee Messiah,
DeleteThis type of Boogie is infections and takes me back to the pub days. Enjoy.
Cheers.
Many thanks. Lots of good things here. Aussie band Blackfeather did a superb boogie, it's piano not guitar, so very different to the usual rock/boogies. It's on their 1972 Boppin' The Blues live LP...highly recommended for that 4th CD.
ReplyDeleteHiBob Mac,
DeleteSurprisingly I have listed to this compilation many times now and All think I could of added this or that track. I guess ba 4th volume is in the cards... Black feather are a great band. I say them a few times.
Cheers.
Thanks for this compilation. I think the boogie rock takes his origien in The John Lee Hooker's "Boogie Chillen" (1948).
ReplyDeleteGreat work as always.
Hi Racati
DeleteThis compilation is in debt to those originators, the Boogie sound of JLH is found everywhere. I guess this compilation is a tribute to those who were influence by that style.
Cheers.
Thanks for this compilation!
ReplyDeleteyour comps are usually as valuable as most of the official ones!
Cheers
Those are very kind words Il Commendatore.
DeleteThank you.
Cheers.
LOVE the Boogie!!!! Status Quo will always be my fav Boogie/Rock band.
ReplyDeleteHi Moe.
DeleteThis type of rock is very infectious. Enjoy the head-knocking and foot tapping.
Cheers.
2 more bands that are Boogie rockers are Spider and Backstreet Girls. Any other band suggestions that are similar to Status Quo would be appreciated. Thanks
DeleteThanks Moe.
DeleteNoted.
Cheers.
Thanks for the Boogie, Butter! ("chugga-chugga boogie beat" - hee-hee!) Once again, it's an excellent mix of known and have-got-to-know.
ReplyDeleteTo run with your response to Doors 97426 and Bob Mac - and if it doesn't draw you into too much work: maybe a (mini)series of CDs of "fourth volumes": well-received compilation themes that are just achin' for a revisit, a "here's another look at [insert previous compilations here]..." Likely you could fill each disk with just the fine suggestions all your visitors have suggested after the intial posting, and have thus eagerly done the work for you. Bonus: you already have the artwork, too, so just adjust the color/filter, roll the number over... and voilà! - instant epilog.
As many first-rate compilations as you've crafted and shared here (Il Commendatore is so right), maybe a set of four revisit-disks every other month or so - minimum work for you, and yet guaranteed to be a delight to your visitors to have a listen to.
Even if not... we're not about to run out of things to listen to and enjoy, just yet. Thanks again!
Hi Aging Child,
DeleteThanks for your kind remarks and suggestions. Appreciated.
It is inevitable that I will miss someone's favorites in any of my comps. As you know my comps aim to produce a selection of tracks that has the listener finding new and old or familiar and unknown sounds. Some times the reviewers choices are obvious and I wish I had included that particular track. I've also been trying to limit my Comps to 3 track-list selections (75 tracks) so again always will miss great tracks some.
Given the feeling around this, a fourth volume should be created. It will probably be a revised issue at a later date.
What gives me great satisfaction is that others would like to contribute to these comps and I learn from this.
Cheers.
I think all your visitors appreciate that you welcome feedback and further suggestions; it makes this an even finer and more positive little community. Keep up the great work - as long as it's not *actually* work, rather than the kids gathering around while you tell us, "Hey, give _this_ a listen, folks - cool, huh?" Thanks again!
DeleteThanks for your answer Butterboy, This set was already great and i'm glad to hear maybe more will come.. As far as Krautrock goes I have almost all the lp's an those Music For Your Brain series, I just like to see what other people like as there favorite cuts, and see if mine are close to the same. thanks once again
ReplyDeleteHi doors97426.
Deletemmm... a Krautrock compilation.... Hey, this could be fun....
I love the challenge. It may take some time as I get into listening again.
Cheers.
Butter, you've been spammed - you might want to delete Tony Malfoy's "contribution" before anyone take and accidental detour... :-o
ReplyDeleteThanks Aging Child.
DeleteIve been clearing a few spammers lately.
Cheers.
Hi, can you repost this one please ? cheers
ReplyDeleteHi Mark2712,
