VA - Oh What A Feeling, A Vital Collection Of Canadian Music [1996] (4 x CD's)

In 1996, this 4-CD box set Oh What a Feeling (named after a song by Crowbar) was released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Juno Awards. This box set was a Limited Edition and is now quite rare. It represents the pinnacle of Canadian music up to 1996.

Lee Silversides, President of Canadian Academy of Recording Arts &Sciences states, in the accompanying booklet,  " On the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of The Juno Awards, it seems particularly fitting that the celebration includes a musical salute to the artists and their music. To that end, the Oh What A Feeling compilation of Canadian music represents the foundation upon which the awards show has been constructed.  The evolution of the Canadian music industry over the past quarter of a century has been immense. From the period of time when Canadian musicians and their music were treated as second class, even in their own country, to today's international superstars, the Juno Awards have been there throughout documenting our successes each step of the way... Canadian music is alive and well Our artists have never been more creative and our music has never sounded better. Enjoy this salute to those artists and their music that allows us to reflect on our musical heritage while moving forward with confidence through the next twenty five years."

While pop musical talent has always been evident in Canada, Canadians have had difficulty harnessing their own talent because it took years for the music business there to catch up. Sadly, a whole generation of Canadians left the country in order to achieve their artistic potential.  This included but not limited to, the Diamonds, the Four Lads, Paul Anka, lan & Sylvia, Buffy Sainte Marie, David Clayton-Thomas, the Band, Steppenwolf, Andy Kim, Denny Doherty (Mamas and Papas), Zal Yanousky (Lovin' Spoonful), Joni Mitchell, and Neil Young.  After twenty-five years of ups and downs, of obscurity and adulation, Canadian music continues making its mark globally and, even the industry's harshest critics admit that, Canadian artists live in a far different world today than their 1960's counterparts. Despite the country being oft described as a small player in a huge world market, Canada has more than its share of artists with international profile and domestic support. Many of the artists are known in virtually every country in the world... (Amazon)
