MOJO MAGAZINE SAMPLERS
VA - The Mojo Machine Turns You On (Let Mojo Take You There) [1997 - 1999] (10 x CDs)
MOJO is a popular music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom, initially by Emap, and since January 2008 by Bauer. Following the success of the magazine Q, publishers Emap were looking for a title that would cater for the burgeoning interest in classic rock music. The magazine was designed to appeal to the 30 to 45-plus age group, or the baby boomer generation. Mojo was first published on 15 October 1993. In keeping with its classic rock aesthetic, the first issue had Bob Dylan and John Lennon as its first cover stars. Noted for its in-depth coverage of both popular and cult acts, it acted as the inspiration for Blender and Uncut. magazine.
MOJO was first published on 15 October 1993 and from 1997 until mid-2004 occasionally came with a CD, or an odd 7" vinyl record. A covermount CD is included with every month's issue since July 2004, except for September 2004 and January 2006 when two separately available CDs were included, and March 2016 when no disc was included with the David Bowie tribute issue which included commemorative posters. No CD produced for issue dated March 2022 due to rising costs.
This set of MOJO magazine issued promotional CDs are the ten that are titled The Mojo Machine Turns You On (Let Mojo Take You There) published between 1997 and 1999. Enjoy reminiscing and discovering new music.

I've got nearly 200 of the Mojo cover discs, always a good and varied listen, these initial releases were certainly full of quality sounds. As always another great compilation, thanks BB.
ReplyDeleteHI LeKermitage.
DeleteThese are certainly full of great music. They're eclectic, just how I like it.
I have all the Mojo CDs as well as the Uncut CDs. I may try to post them all one day.
Cheers.
Yes....I too have many of the original CD's and Magazines. Due to costs over recent years these things have become quite expensive to have the regular monthly listen and resad (especially in Australia with freight).
ReplyDeleteOver recent times I have gone more digital with these so always welcome here.
Cheers
Stephen
I understand Stephen.
DeleteI used to get the early editions, but they became very expensive. I pick them up at discounted prices now. Electronic copies are useful but i find reading this way difficult at times. So much better with a tangible copy. Enjoy these early CDs.
Cheers.
Agrred....
DeleteHope you will put up more...
I'll probably put them up as a Lucky Dip set.
DeleteCheers.
Mojo also had quite a few "special" issue CD's/Magazines......One of them being "The Greatest Single Of All Time" (Issue 45 August 1997).
DeleteIt would be interesting to see what Butterboy visitors think is / could be the "Greatest Single of All Time".
Then disclose the MOJO 1997 one!?
Cheers
Stephen
When ever I was in England visiting family I would pick up the latest issue to read on the flight home. Always good articles. I don't have these ones so I am hoping there is something to spark my interest. Thanks BB
ReplyDeleteThe English mags were always great. I used to pick up whatever I could when I visit the UK.
DeleteI hope you find some gems in this lot.
Cheers.
Excellent set of Mojo albums from way back. I now subscribe and collect them. Uncut magazine is also a rather good read with a free sampler each month. Well done Butterboy, you continue to provide a valuable service to many music buffs. Thank you for all the hard graft and long may you continue. Cheers :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Man from Mordor.
DeleteLet's see what I get put up here in the future.
Cheers.
Hey BB, were these compilations from a Southern Hemisphere edition of Mojo? A lot of Aussie/NZ acts on there. I still buy it religiously, and have all the CDs from throughout the years. SPx
ReplyDeleteHi SleepyPete.
DeleteThe ones I posted were all UK editions as far as I know. I wasn't aware that there was an Sothern Hemisphere edition (?). Great Mag and great promo CDs.
Cheers.
Many thanks Butterboy for sharing this great collection of tunes.....Love & Peace Stu
ReplyDeleteHi Stu,
DeleteI hope you will enjoy them.
Cheers.
FYI cd 3 track 5 is the ambient version of Waiting in Vain by Bill Laswell. A wonderful track indeed.
ReplyDeleteStephen my vote would be Strawberry Fields.
You're welcome, pauzze.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
LINKS... have lost their MOJO
ReplyDeleteHi mrRadio.
DeleteI found my MOJO.
New links established, tested and working.
Cheers.
Thanks for these...I have tons of MOJO cds from over the years but none of this batch. They must have been from before I discovered the magazine. I still buy it and Uncut often but have given up getting every one because of the cost...now only if the CD interests me or there's an article I want to read. Still great mags, though. My regular buys are Shindig and Vive Le Rock nowadays. When I check my order in the newsagents and they've both come in at the same time the price makes my head swim!
ReplyDeleteHi Montax,
ReplyDeleteThese were given to newly subscribed readers. These samplers were always interesting as were the continued series on CDS from MOJO. Hope fully I can post more in the future.
Cheers.
