GREAT DEBUT SINGLES PART 2
VA - Up In Lights, Great DEBUT Singles Vol. 02 (A Butterboy Compilation) (4 x CD's)
REPOST
First impressions are so important, back in the old days, bands used to release things called "albums", which were often introduced by items known as "singles". As a buyer, the idea was you listened to the radio and heard a song you liked, then physically went to the record store and bought the single. If you really enjoyed the single – and could afford it – you then went and bought the whole album. I guess people do still buy albums, but that single? You hear it on a Spotify playlist and, if you could be bothered, you look up the artist. Old man warning: Things were better in the old days. (weekendnotes.com)
The medium may change from analog to digital, but there’s always something magical about a great single, a record that can change your life in four minutes or less, and there’s a special knack to coming up with a classic your first time out of the gate. Even the most brilliant artists haven’t always managed that and there are a few world-class bands who had an underwhelming single or two before their big breakthrough. Still, there are quite a few artists who claimed their territory with the first notes of their first single, and below are the greatest debut 45 records. A few were great one-offs, but most were the start of a long career. (udiscovermusic.com)
A great debut single is the opening line in a conversation you never want to end, and hearing a band or artist get it right on their first try is one of the greatest thrills in music. (Rolling stone)

That's very interesting because I never knew from many of those they were debut singles. Pity though that "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is a live version cause the original studio version is just too perfect.
ReplyDeleteHi Wolfgang,
DeleteI didn't have the original at the time. I believe I now have a copy. I will update it at some stage. (I should also fix the title too)
Cheers.
Hi Butterboy, that's great. It's a track (or even a trip) I think everybody should know. The live version does not come close imho.
ReplyDeleteAdded a link for the studio version. See above.
DeleteCheers.
Fantastic. Sorry to have caused you additional work as if it wasn't enough what you are doing here ... I keep looking forward to every of your posts and I think there will be lots of and lots of music lovers that are the same. Please won't you ever stop doing this ;) Cheers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wolfgang.
DeleteNo Issue at all. The new version posted is better.
Cheers.

ReplyDeleteThere was a correctional file add-on as well.
DeleteBB I see your new Combo Repost of V1+V2
DeleteDid the "107 Bela Lugosi's Dead" fix here get into that?
