I was listening to all this War and started thinking of a miztape of bands that could fit in with them. So I came up with this. For anyone who doesn't know, "Ése" is Mexican slang for "Dude" (sort of). Pretty much. I played a lot of Soccer growing up and most of the people I played with and against were of some Latin country, usually Mexico, since I grew up in California. We all called each other Ése (or else some other way worse things - it was the seventies.)

A brief aside. 'Fearless' by Pink Floyd is a song I actually feature on. The crowd singing 'You'll never walk alone' is taken from the 'Kop Choir' album which was recorded at two Liverpool games in 1969, both of which I was at. I'm probably the one singing completely out of tune.

Part 9 of the "Jazz!" series. Post Bop is a modern jazz style that continues the distinguishing characteristics that separate jazz from the world of pop and rock; swing rhythm and extended harmonies (9th chords 11ths, altered chords, etc). Post Bop grew out of the Hard Bop genre during the early to mid 60s as musicians such as Bill Evans, Wayne Shorter, and Herbie Hancock began to introduce more extended harmonies, abstract structures and looser rhythms in their playing and compositions. (https://www.jazzmusicarchives.com › subgenre › post-bop)

Post-bop is a jazz term with several possible definitions and usages. Musicologist Barry Kernfeld wrote in The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians that post-bop is "a vague term, used either stylistically or chronologically to describe any continuation or amalgamation of bop, modal jazz, and free jazz; its meaning sometimes extends into swing and earlier styles or into fusion and third-world styles." The term has been variously defined as a musical period, a musical genre, a musical style, and a body of music, sometimes in different chronological periods, depending on the writer. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-bop)

  3. Herve's compilation is pleasantly eclectic and contains some great songs as usual. But honestly I don't think a band with a rapist singer should not be promoted. You know which one I'm talking of ...

    1. Hi Wolfgang, "The Berlin public prosecutor's office on Tuesday dismissed the investigation against Till Lindemann, the singer of Rammstein, one of the most popular metal bands in the world. The man was suspected of having sexually assaulted women after concerts ." (08/29/2023) But you are right in one sense: even when the suspicion is there, don't get involved. It's a track that I appreciated at the time. Well, let's say that I will pay a little more attention to the backgrounds of the artists presented. Thanks for the alert Wolfgang. A similar case occurs in France with the singer of the group Noir Désir, Bertrand Cantat, who caused the death of his friend at the time (2003), Marie Trintignant. He was judged, but a good part of French society still does not accept his return to singing (myself included). There is definitely debate. Very painful debate.

    2. Hi Hervé, I know that he couldn’t be convicted. But if you followed the case here in Germany, it’s clear that it was simply a legal issue. There can be no talk of innocence in any way! I heard about the Bertrand Calat case back then and was absolutely shocked. Although I find some of Noir Desir’s old pieces great, I can completely understand that the man should not step back on stage again. The question of whether one can completely separate the artist from their art seems to be something each person must ultimately decide for themselves.

  4. Pesonally, I believe in 'innocent until proven guilty' and not the lynch mob. You quote yourself that the case was dismissed. Referring to him as a rapist is probably libellous.

    1. In general, I would subscribe to this. But not in this case, please see my reply to Hervé.
