"Psychedelic rock attempts to replicate the mind-altering experiences of hallucinogenic drugs. It emerged during the mid-1960s among garage and folk rock bands in Britain and the United States.
The appearance and subsequent eruption of the Psychedelic music genre is one of those elements that defined the swinging sixties. Psychedelic folk, psychedelic rock, and acid rock bands ruled the music and pop culture scene in a way that world had not seen up till that time. It’s no surprise that bands and artists like the Beatles, Byrds, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, and many more are still revered today.

Psychedelic rock bridged the transition from early blues-based rock to progressive rock, art rock, experimental rock, and some first uses of electronics in rock. It also drew on non-Western sources such as Indian music's ragas and sitars."  Neo-psychedelia, the “70s offshoot of psychedelic movement," also ruled the scene, taking center stage up till the early 90's.

The psychedelic and neo-psychedelia genre is still very much with us today, with several acts taking advantage of advances in technology, and elements of electronic music and progressive rock, to infuse varied beats and textures to their music. There are a lot of great rock bands that make big, swirling and mind-blowing records. Supremely dreamy psychedelia at its best that will lift the spirit.
