This is a collection of rare and unreleased recordings from the legendary studio of Norman Petty, who was a producer, songwriter, and musician who worked with Buddy Holly, The Crickets, and other pioneers of the genre. The series consists of 10 volumes, each featuring a different period or genre of music that was recorded at the studio in Clovis, New Mexico. You will be amazed by the diversity and quality of the artists and songs that Petty worked with, as well as his innovative production techniques and sound. You will discover Roy Orbison, Jimmy Bowen, Bob Montgomery, Jerry Engler, Ivan (aka Jerry Allison), Jack & Jim (aka Waylon Jennings and Buddy Holly), and many more. The series was compiled and produced by Shawn Nagy, who is a collector and researcher of Norman Petty’s recordings. He obtained the permission and cooperation of Petty’s widow Vi Petty and the Norman Petty Estate to release the series. The series is a treasure trove for anyone who appreciates the sound and spirit of Norman Petty Studios. It is a must-have for your music collection.

There are many standout tracks in this series, depending on your taste and preference. Here are some favorites include:

A True Love Goodbye by Roy Orbison: This is a rare and early recording of the legendary singer, who was only 18 years old at the time. He showcases his distinctive voice and style, as well as his songwriting talent. The song is a heartfelt ballad about parting ways with a lover, and it features some beautiful guitar work by Norman Petty himself.

Frankie Frankenstein by Ivan: This is a novelty song by Jerry Allison, who was the drummer of The Crickets and a close friend of Buddy Holly. He recorded this song under the pseudonym Ivan, and it is a humorous tribute to the horror movie genre. The song is full of spooky sound effects and witty lyrics, and it has a catchy rockabilly beat.

Tarzan & Jane by Jack & Jim: This is another novelty song, but this time by two future stars: Waylon Jennings and Buddy Holly. They recorded this song as a duo called Jack & Jim, and it is a parody of the popular Tarzan movies. The song is full of hilarious impressions and jokes, and it shows the playful side of these two legends.

Jitterbuggin’ by Five Bops: This is a rocking tune by a local group from Clovis, New Mexico. They were influenced by Buddy Holly and The Crickets, and they recorded this song at Norman Petty Studios in 1958. The song is a celebration of the jitterbug dance craze, and it features some energetic vocals and guitar riffs.

Knockout by The Ivy Jives: This is a surf instrumental by a group from Texas. They were one of the first bands to record surf music at Norman Petty Studios, and they used some of the studio’s unique equipment and effects. The song is a fast and furious track that showcases their skill and creativity.
