SPACE DAZE

VA - Space Daze, The History & Mystery of Electronic Ambient Space [1994] + VA - Space Daze 2000, A Mind Journey of Electronic Ambient Space Rock [1996]

"Space Daze, The History and Mystery of Ambient Electronic Space Rock" is a book by Dave Thompson that explores the origins and evolution of the genre of space rock, which combines elements of psychedelic rock, progressive rock, electronic music and ambient music. The book covers the influences and works of various artists and bands that have contributed to the development of space rock, such as Hawkwind, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Syd Barrett, Jimi Hendrix, Chrome, Sky Cries Mary and many more.  The book was first published in 1994 by Cleopatra Records, a label that specializes in space rock and related genres. The book also includes a discography and an index. The book is based on interviews with musicians, producers, journalists and fans of space rock.

These albums are a companion to the book of the same name by Dave Thompson

VA - Space Daze, The History & Mystery of Electronic Ambient Space is a various artists compilation album released in 1994 by Cleopatra Records. The album features 21 tracks over 2 CDs by different artists and bands that are considered to be part of the space rock genre or influenced by it. The album covers a wide range of styles and sounds, from the psychedelic rock of Hawkwind, Gong and Pink Floyd, to the ambient music of Brian Eno, Coil and Tangerine Dream, to the experimental rock of Amon Düül II. The album also includes some lesser-known acts such as Din, Hellios Creed and Sky Cries Mary.

VA - Space Daze 2000, A Mind Journey of Electronic Ambient Space Rock, the sequel to Space Daze, is a compilation album released in 1996 by Cleopatra Records. It is an excellent sampling of ambient music. Drawing from both techno and rock, the collection features groundbreaking tracks from Brian Eno, Kraftwerk, and David Bowie, as well as tracks from artists like Future Sound of London and Spiral Realms that popularized ambient in the '90s. It's a perfect introduction to a sometimes-challenging music.

These albums are a good introduction to the history and diversity of space rock music, as well as a showcase of some of the most influential and innovative artists in the genre.  Space Daze is a fabulous primer for anyone needing a road map for their first space rock trip.

Enjoy.
