To celebrate their 40th anniversary, The Allman Brothers Band released a special Beacon Box Set in 2009. This live CD package is a monumental collection that captures the essence of the band’s dynamic live performances during their all 15 sold-out shows from their March 2009 performances at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. This marks the first time the band has made CDs available from their annual New York visits, which began in 1989 and include 188 consecutive sold-out shows at the Beacon.

The 2009 run was dedicated to the memory of Duane Allman, the band’s founding guitarist. To honor his legacy, 62 special guests joined the Allman Brothers Band on stage. The guest list features a “Who’s Who” of rock, jazz, and jam greats, including Levon Helm, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Boz Scaggs, Johnny Winter, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Herring and John Bell from Widespread Panic, Kid Rock, Billy Gibbons, David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas from Los Lobos, Bob Margolin, Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell from Phish, Chuck Leavell, Jimmy Hall, Susan Tedeschi, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, and many more. Notably, Eric Clapton also performed with the band for two nights, marking the first time he played with the Allman Brothers Band in a public setting since recording “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs” with Duane Allman in 1970.

The fact that the band performed at its considerable best in its 40th year is a remarkable testament to the talents of this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group. The band’s exceptional performance in their 40th year just highlights their enduring talent. The Allman Brothers Band seamlessly transitions between tracks, crafting a unified live experience. The Beacon Box Set showcases the magic of their timeless classics, newer tunes, and spectacular cover songs. The 15 historic shows, featuring 100 different songs, are packaged in a custom-made, hand-crafted, serial-numbered box with the Beacon Theatre’s marquee silkscreened on the front. Additionally, the box set includes a special bonus performance from the Allman Brothers Band at Warren Haynes’ 20th Annual Christmas Jam in December 2008. The set also comes with a CD booklet containing liner notes, set lists, and exclusive photos taken during the run by ABB Tour Mystic, Kirk West. Individual shows are available for purchase as well, making this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience a truly memorable event and to witness and their unique chemistry that has kept them at the pinnacle of the music scene for decades.
