Mort Garson - Black Mass Lucifer [1971]

MORT GARSON

Mort Garson - Black Mass Lucifer [1971]

Mort Garson’s 1971 album, “Black Mass Lucifer,” stands as a rare treasure in electronic music history. Released under the alias Lucifer, Garson masterfully employed the Moog synthesizer to craft haunting and otherworldly soundscapes. The album’s scarcity is highlighted by its extended period out of print, only seeing a reissue in 2018 after being unavailable for over three decades. Despite its initial obscurity, “Black Mass Lucifer” has developed a dedicated cult following, with enthusiasts lauding its bold and inventive tracks. The album’s impact reaches beyond its niche, playing a pivotal role in the broader acceptance and exploration of electronic music during the 1970s. Garson’s innovative work epitomizes the experimental ethos of the era. (B)

  1. Gerson was so amazing yet underappreciated. Coming across a piece of his in a Low Light Mix recently reminded me of how much he anticipated what music can be. By the way, if you have a copy of his The Unexplained, it falls into the same line as this one and is, if anything, superior. It takes me back to listening to it for hours on end when it first came out in the early seventies...

Thanks BB, for the endless hours of musical entertainment you bring into the hearts and ears of those who would listen...

    1. Hi Charles Swenson,
I do have the exceptional "The Unexplained" album. and several others. He was, as you say, underappreciated. Originally his works were treated as novelties which is so unfair.
      Cheers.
