Early, pre-Alice Cooper band singles by the Spiders and the Nazz lead right into tracks drawn from 21 albums released between 1969 and 1984, including such classics as single versions of "School's Out;" "Elected;" "You and Me", and "Only Women Bleed;" "I'm Eighteen;" "Muscle of Love;" "No More Mr. Nice Guy;" "I Never Cry;" "Poison;" "Hello Hooray;" "Billion Dollar Babies," and more. Also here are the Coop's various soundtrack recordings, non-LP B-sides, live versions, unreleased album outtakes and demos. Killer!

This box set is such a gift. Where would rock 'n' roll be today without Alice? Probably no more. Anyone who has any affection for rock music would do themselves a tremendous favor by aquiring it. Suffice to say this; anyone who has any doubts of Alice's talent, depth, range, or gifts in musical (not to mention theatrical!) ventures, or of his ability to do it for 30+ years, should listen to "I Never Cry" followed by "Freedom". Everything in between is also some of the best rock music ever produced. Plus, Alice has to be the nicest guy to strike fear into the hearts of parents in history. This 4 x CD compilation is the cradle of rock and roll. Chess Records is where The Rolling Stones wanted to go as soon as they landed in America. Chess records was in the right place at the right time and the talent that recorded in the Chess Studio, which by the way was run by two Jews, brought the blues from the South to Chicago. They were the innovators, the true stars of an art form they were shaping out of the streets of Chicago. Chess was the birth place of big city Blues, Soul and Rock and Roll. Don't expect modern production values, these are live in the studio recordings without over dubs or other electronic trickery. Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry, the list of artists is longer than Route 66. The first two CD's are an excellent over view of Chess' R&B output. CD3 is all about Soul Music, while CD4 reveals Chess Records in the Sixties getting experimental with Muddy and the Wolf updating their sound to appeal to the contemporary record buyers, stabs at psychedelia and more R&B gems. It's a solid collection from a label that was a prime mover and innovator and a must have if you're interested in hearing where all the riffs and Rock moves originated.
