David Bowie was an English singer-songwriter and actor. He was born on January 8, 1947, in Brixton, London, England and died on January 10, 2016, in Lafayette Street, New York City, US1. He was a leading figure in the music industry and is regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century1. Bowie’s career was marked by reinvention and visual presentation, and his music and stagecraft had a significant impact on popular music1. He developed an interest in music from an early age. He studied art, music and design before embarking on a professional career as a musician in 1963. During his lifetime, David Bowie released 26 studio albums, 9 live albums, 2 soundtrack albums, 26 compilation albums, 8 extended plays, 128 singles and 6 box sets.

Bowie released a string of unsuccessful singles with local bands and a solo album before achieving his first top five entry on the UK Singles Chart with “Space Oddity”, released in 1969. After a period of experimentation, he re-emerged in 1972 during the glam rock era with the flamboyant and androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust. The character was spearheaded by the success of “Starman” and album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, which won him widespread popularity. In 1975, Bowie’s style shifted towards a sound he characterized as “plastic soul”, initially alienating many of his UK fans but garnering him his first major US crossover success with the number-one single “Fame” and the album Young Americans.

Bowie continued to experiment with musical styles throughout the 1990s and 2000s including industrial and jungle. He fronted the hard rock band Tin Machine between 1988 and 1992 before resuming his solo career in 1993. Bowie was acclaimed by critics and musicians particularly for his innovative work during the 1970s. His career was marked by reinvention and visual presentation, and his music and stagecraft had a significant impact on popular music.

David Bowie released 128 singles during his lifetime excluding Tin Machine singles. Amongst the singles was a wealth of B-sides. David Bowie’s greatest B-side single is subjective and varies depending on personal preference. However, some of his most popular B-sides include “The Man Who Sold the World” (1970), “Velvet Goldmine” (1975), “Crystal Japan” (1980) and “Alabama Song” (1980) (B)

Here is a compilation of Bowies B-Sides from 1964 to 2014. There are 91 tracks in total. The first 3 CDs are focused on UK B-sides and the 4th CD is a mix of US and other important B-Sides from around the globe.

I have excluded a few B-Sides as follows with the exception of one single a 2021 AA-Side of which both tracks are included.

The single was issued on January 8, 2021, what would have been Bowie’s 74th birthday. It was made available in two physical formats and as a digital download.
