Very nice compilation. One of my favorite Australian bands/songs is The Passengers "Girlfriend's Boyfriend" but I guess it's not that popular since it's never on any list. Jo Kennedy also has a track from an Australian movie that I love (Starstruck) called "Monkey In Me" that I think is pretty cool and again isn't on comps like this. And, of course, The Divinyls with several tracks, but I'm thinking "Pleasure and Pain" All which could be considered definitive Australian music of the same era. I wouldn't put AC-DC or the Easybeats in that because they have transcended the list.
ReplyDeleteHi Pol.
DeleteYou've got some great taste in music! "Girlfriend's Boyfriend" by The Passengers (which you have included in your compilation previously) and Jo Kennedy's "Monkey In Me" are indeed gems that deserve more recognition. And The Divinyls' "Pleasure and Pain" is a classic that fits well in Australian rock from that era. You have given me an idea for a Readers Poll special.
Cheers.
Makes me want to watch Starstruck again....
DeleteExcept Tim Finn and Split Enz are from New Zealand, not Australia. LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Naz Fride.
DeleteYou know we have a history of claiming great NZ acts as our own in Australia (LOL).
It's true Tim Finn (and Split Enz) was New Zealand born but he/they left New Zealand for Melbourne in and created music between 1975 and 1986. Split Enz released nine studio albums in Australia eight of which were recorded in Australia. Tim also recorded at least two albums in Australia - Escapade (1983) and Big Canoe (1986). Whist it is true originally from, they made their homes in Australia and were part of the Australian music scene. I guess that is why they are added to the list on this compilation.
Cheers.
Thanks BB. Lots of new discoveries for me.
ReplyDeleteAs BB has been mentioning Readers Poll - I would go for Died Pretty. Maybe DC... thx for this great comp...
