This 2011 compilation album released by Soul Jazz Records titled Bossa Nova (subtitled: Bossa Nova and the Rise of Brazilian Music in the 1960s) is a solid bossa comp which includes the major players and strikes a nice balance between the familiar and the more obscure.

Building a Brazilian music CD collection can be a serious pain in the ass as most albums are expensive imports and/or out-of-print. Thankfully we have labels like Soul Jazz making great compilations, this compilation covers Bossa Nova and Brazilian music from the 60s before the Tropicalia movement, and this one is just as essential. Two full discs of great Brazilian music from most of the big names of that era, just wonderful tunes that are quite chill and never lacking in richness. Brazilian music is often ignored by lots of music fans, but once you get into it you quickly realize that it's an absolute gold mine and one of the most important countries especially in that era. The Bossa Nova selections are top notch and also includes a 76-page booklet telling the history of the country's music and other stuff, it's definitely worth every penny and Soul Jazz remains on top when it comes to compilations/reissues.
