VA - Rhythm & Blues Goes Rock & Roll Vol. 1-5 [2022] (5 x CDs)

The "Rhythm & Blues Goes Rock & Roll" series on Atomicat Records is an engaging journey into the vibrant world where classic rhythm & blues evolved into the raw energy of rock & roll. Clocking in with five albums, this series is a heartfelt homage that shines a spotlight on Caucasian men and women, hailing from a variety of musical backgrounds, who took classic R&B tunes and reimagined them in ways that were uniquely their own. Atomicat Records, renowned for its dedication to digging up and preserving vintage sounds, brings together a collection that not only pays tribute to pioneers of the genre but also shines a light on some of the more obscure yet fascinating interpretations that emerged during the mid-1950s to early 1960s. This series offers a fascinating snapshot of a musical crossroads where diverse influences converge.

Throughout the series, a wide array of artists, from celebrated names to forgotten gems, step forward to deliver personal interpretations that add their own creative stamp to timeless tunes. Their energetic renditions transform familiar melodies into fresh, dynamic experiences that keep you on your toes. It's not just about reviving old hits; it's about reinventing them, allowing each performance to breathe new life into the original spirit of the music.

One standout release in the collection features a well-curated selection that perfectly encapsulate the musical experimentation of the time. Here, the energetic interplay of American and Australian influences forms an engaging musical dialogue, underscoring the international reach of rock & roll. The album evinces a deep appreciation for the cross-pollination of styles, painting a vivid picture of the creative ferment that sparked innovation across continents.

What makes the whole series so captivating is its dual role as both a historical archive and a living expression of creative reimagination. It is a celebration of the moment when musical boundaries were being redrawn, a time when every note told a story of passion, rebellion, and artistic evolution. If you are a longtime collector or a newcomer to vintage rock & roll, this series invites you to experience the raw, unfiltered spirit of music that continues to inspire and resonate today. (B)

  2. Thank you, I was expecting something else. I swapped the title, and fits me better.
Rock 'n' Roll goes Rhythm & Blues. It can be read both ways, Father Abram sings Susanne, where to put the comma.

    1. Hi Richard.
It’s always fascinating how a simple shift in perspective can change the entire meaning of a title. Rock 'n' Roll goes Rhythm & Blues; or the other way around; captures the fluidity of musical evolution, where genres blend and influence each other in unexpected ways.
And as for Father Abram singing Susanne, well, the placement of a comma can certainly shape the rhythm of a phrase, just like in music itself.
      Cheers.

    2. Thanks for your blog, I've had a look around and am extremely excited about the content and especially your themed compilations. Some things like the compilations about the rain are unfortunately offline, I'm a bit late :D A question about Atomicat ‘'Rhythm & Blues Goes Rock & Roll’'. Are these perhaps mispressings? I listened through the CDs and compared the tracks with those on the back cover, which I had downloaded especially for this purpose. Apart from the fact that at least 4 tracks are missing on each CD, some songs end abruptly or you can hear the end of another song at the beginning of some tracks.
      Best regards from Bavaria, Germany

    3. Hi Teddy Boy Jim.
You're absolutely right. Each CD should contain 28 tracks. This was gifted to me by a trusted source, and I regret not verifying the content beforehand. My sincere apologies for the oversight. I'll remove it for now and bring it back once the issue is corrected.
      Cheers.

    4. Hi Teddyboy Jim.
I have checked my files and have updated the links accordingly.
I can't answer why tracks went missing. As it turned out, I had several versions of the set. I should have been more thorough. Anyhow it is now fixed.
      Cheers.
