Tikaram was born in Münster, West Germany, the daughter of an Indo-Fijian British Army officer, Pramod Tikaram, and a Sarawakian Malay mother, Fatimah Rohani. Because of her father's military career, she spent her early life in Germany before moving to Basingstoke, Hampshire, England in her early teens. She is the younger sister of the actor Ramon Tikaram and the great-niece of Sir Moti Tikaram, who was the first Lord Chief Justice of an independent Fiji and the world's longest-serving national ombudsman. She attended Queen Mary's College in Basingstoke.

Tikaram started singing in nightclubs while she was still a teenager and came to the attention of WEA Records. Her debut album, Ancient Heart, produced by Rod Argent and Peter Van Hooke, was released in September 1988 when she was 19 years old. The album's first two singles, "Good Tradition" and "Twist in My Sobriety", became top 10 hits around Europe and the album sold around four million copies worldwide. Both the single "Twist In My Sobriety" and Tikaram herself were nominated at the 1989 Brit Awards for Best British Single and Female Artist categories respectively.

A quick succession of albums for WEA – The Sweet Keeper (1990), Everybody's Angel (1991), and Eleven Kinds of Loneliness (1992) did not achieve the same commercial success, with each album selling fewer than the previous one. Her 1992 album Eleven Kinds of Loneliness, which was the first Tikaram fully produced herself, did not chart at all. Taking a break from the music industry and moving to San Francisco, Tikaram returned in 1995 with the album Lovers in the City, which received better reviews than her previous albums and achieved better sales. Still, it was her last studio album for WEA and her contract was finished in 1996 with the release of the compilation album The Best of Tanita Tikaram.

The "WEA, Eastwest Albums 1988-1995" box set is a delightful journey through the early years of a truly unique musical talent. This collection brings together the first five albums, offering a comprehensive look at the evolution of an artist who has consistently pushed the boundaries of genre and style. From the very first track, listeners are transported into a world of rich, emotive storytelling and intricate melodies. Each album in this set showcases a different facet of the artist's creativity, from the introspective and soulful to the upbeat and experimental. The diversity of the music ensures that there is something for everyone, whether you're a long-time fan or new to the artist's work.  The remastering of these albums is superb, breathing new life into the recordings and allowing the nuances of the performances to shine through. 

The set boasts a total of 81 tracks, with the bonus material largely consisting of B-sides, radio edits, instrumentals, and early versions of songs. In addition to the original albums, the box set includes rare tracks and unreleased material, such as the 'Early Guitar And Voice' versions of "Hot Port Sandwiches" and "I Love The Heaven's Solo," which were originally B-sides. This is a set of compilations of various Underground Garage & Rockabilly Greek bands.  Not much is known internationally when it comes to Greek rock music. But there is a great indie scene that's worth your attention. This could be one of the best Garage/Psych scenes in the world. Most of these bands didn't get the chance to record in a proper studio or release an album, but thanks to independent labels there were many releases from small Greek indie labels.  On Stage Records was one of them.

On Stage Records presents the first complete retrospective compilation of today's Greek rock'n'roll scene. This compilation presents the best crop of the "Now Sound" of the Greek rock'n'roll. It includes 15 artists in 22 tracks (most of the cuts are originals) with sounds varying from straight-on rockabilly to garage and from surf to psychedelia. You will find everything in here from various Garage Rock styles, Rockabilly, Psychobilly and Pop Rock tracks.  All the tracks included are previously unreleased and very carefully selected! And like the bottle of the famous Greek aperitif "ouzo" at the front cover, this compilation is destined to be an exportable product and will surely appeal internationally.

Enjoy The Greeks II is a compilation that was available free with the Music Magazine POP & ROCK (was a popular monthly music magazine in Greece, founded in 1978 and finished in 2012). As with 'Enjoy The Greeks" It contains many Garage Rock, Rockabilly, Psychobilly and Pop Rock tracks. All tracks are previously unreleased except tracks 1,9 and 17. (Amazon)

Kid Ory - The Complete Verve Sessions [1999] released by Mosaic Records, is an 8-CD box set, meticulously curated collection that captures the essence of Kid Ory's contributions to the Dixieland jazz genre. The set spans recordings from the mid-1950s (when Ory was in his early 70s) to the early 1960s, showcasing Ory's vibrant trombone performances and his collaborations with other jazz legends.

Kid Ory is best remembered for his influential work in the mid-1920s, particularly with musicians who had once been his employees. His trombone can be heard on many essential King Oliver recordings, and he is perhaps most famous for his contributions to Louis Armstrong’s Hot Five sessions. Ory’s ensemble playing on “Struttin’ with Some Barbecue” alone would secure his place among the great tailgate trombonists.

During the Great Depression, Ory put down his trombone and took up work on a chicken farm near Los Angeles. He later found employment in a railroad office. It wasn’t until 1942 that Ory returned to the music scene. His career experienced a resurgence starting in 1944 when Orson Welles hired him to lead a band for his radio broadcasts.

By the mid-1950s, Ory’s career was flourishing once again as he began recording for Norman Granz at Verve. He toured Europe and the United States, playing to packed houses. In France, audiences were so enthusiastic that Ory mistook their exuberance for aggression, thinking he was being jeered when he was actually being cheered. A recording of that night’s performance opens the Mosaic set, capturing the raw energy and rowdiness that Ory brought to his performances, reminiscent of the traditional trombonists of today.

One of the standout features of this box set is the exceptional quality of the remastered recordings. Each track has been carefully restored to bring out the nuances of Ory's playing, making it a delight for audiophiles. The collection includes iconic tracks such as "Muskrat Ramble," "Tiger Rag," and "When The Saints Go Marching In," which are essential listening for any jazz aficionado.
