THE MANY FACES OF...
VA - The Many Faces Of Bob Marley and The Wailers [2015] (3 x CDs)
Without a doubt, Bob Marley was for many decades, and still is, the most global figure in the world of reggae, embodying not only music, but also the entire culture of reggae. Of course, he was not the first representative of this genre to achieve international success, but he was the most charismatic artist who created the most thorough, extensive and influential catalog of reggae style. In The Many Faces Of Bob Marley, we will trace his influences, roots, his lesser-known works, the parallel projects of his band (The Wailers), some remixes and rarities, and plunge into his huge legacy, which is represented by only a small part. Many Faces of Bob Marley is an essential album for your collection. (Amazon)

thank you
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Aussie.
DeleteCheers.
A most interesting collection, one which puts Mr Marley’s contributions in to context. Truth be told, the baton of reggae was drop when he passed and it has not been picked up since; probably never will be.These CDs demonstrate just how innovative, ground-breaking and influential he was. Thank you for this.
ReplyDeleteThanks Man from Mordor.
DeleteI understand your sentiment clearly, but I would like to comment further.
While Bob Marley's contributions were undeniably groundbreaking, many artists have continued to carry the torch for reggae and keep its legacy alive. Innovators like Burning Spear, Jimmy Cliff, and Toots and the Maytals and many others have maintained the roots of reggae, crafting music that resonates with the genre's core spirit. Modern stars such as Chronixx and Koffee have brought reggae to new heights, blending tradition with contemporary influences and attracting younger audiences. Lee "Scratch" Perry’s experimental genius in dub reggae has also profoundly shaped the genre’s evolution.
I believe that these artists demonstrate that reggae continues to thrive, showing that while Marley's influence is monumental, the baton has been picked up and carried forward in diverse and inspiring ways. Reggae, like any vibrant genre, evolves while staying true to its essence.
Cheers.
Thank you Butterboy for your comments and wise words - Obviously I had closed my mind to much music since Bob departed. I will indeed need to explore further and update my opinions. Cheers.
