In the late 80s and early 90s, a distinct musical style emerged, characterized by layers of overlapping guitar melodies and soft, introspective vocals. Musicians performing this style often stayed still on stage, deeply focused on their instruments, earning the genre the nickname “Shoegaze.” A community naturally formed, often referred to as “the scene that celebrates itself,” where these bands supported one another and shaped a unique musical movement.

To honor the legacy of Shoegaze, the English label Club AC30 began releasing the Never Lose That Feeling compilation in 2005. This series not only paid tribute to the pioneers of the genre but also spotlighted new bands inspired by this iconic sound. Many of these emerging artists were part of the label’s own roster, showcasing the continued evolution of Shoegaze. The compilation became a three-volume success, with each album featuring 16 reinterpretations of classic tracks, totaling an impressive 48 covers. The reinterpretations offered a fresh perspective, ranging from the intriguing and creative to the more familiar, providing listeners with a captivating mix of nostalgia and innovation. For fans of the genre, it was a treasure trove of reimagined favorites.

Though the xxx project has since come to a halt in 2009, its impact on the Shoegaze community endures. The Never Lose That Feeling series remains a celebration of the genre's essence and its ongoing influence. Whether revisiting classic sounds or exploring fresh takes, this collection offers a heartfelt tribute to a movement that continues to inspire musicians and fans alike. (B)
