VA - Pop Revolution From The Underground [1969]

The compilation album VA - Pop Revolution From The Underground (1969) is a snapshot of the late 1960s music scene, capturing the essence of an era defined by experimentation and cultural upheaval. Released by CBS in Germany, this multicolored vinyl LP features a diverse array of tracks that blend jazz, rock, blues, and pop, showcasing the innovative spirit of the time.

The album opens with Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper's rendition of "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)," a playful and melodic piece written by Paul Simon. Blood, Sweat & Tears' "More And More" and Spirit's "I Got A Line On You" bring dynamic energy and soulful grooves to the mix. John Kay's "Twisted" and Don Ellis's "Scratt And Fluggs" highlight the experimental edge of the compilation. The flip side continues the journey with The Electric Flag's "Soul Searchin'" and The Chambers Brothers' "You Got The Power - To Turn Me On," both delivering powerful performances. Al Kooper's "I Stand Alone" and Moby Grape's "Hoochie" add depth and introspection, while John Simon's "Painting For Freakout" closes the album with a whimsical touch. (B)

  2. Tracks 3 and 8 somehow seem to be mixed up in this dl: 8 is Spirit's great track "I got a line" (but it should be # 3!?); 3 is something I do not recognize from my memories (I had this fine sampler in those days, as an LP), but to me # 8 does not sound very much like Al Kooper (?). Please check again, BB. Best, TC
