VA - MORE Possum Droppings CD07-10 (A Berni Special Presentation) (4 x CDS)

HONKY-TONK HUMOR, BARROOM WISDOM and WESTERN WEIRDNESS

VA - MORE Possum Droppings CD07-10 (A Berni Special Presentation) (4 x CDS)

MORE Possum Droppings, the second instalment in Berni’s wild, affectionate exploration of honky‑tonk humour and western oddball brilliance, arrives as a four‑disc continuation of the world he opened in the first six volumes. Presented as CDs 7 through 10 in Berni’s ongoing celebration of honky‑tonk humour, barroom wisdom and western weirdness, extends the spirit of the original six‑disc set with another generous sweep of mischief drawn from across the country landscape. These four discs gather novelty cuts, outlaw wit, soundtrack fragments, regional oddities and modern tongue‑in‑cheek country, each chosen for its ability to make listeners laugh, wince or nod in recognition. The selections come from LPs, CDs, radio comedy, film soundtracks and small‑label singles, preserving a corner of country music that rarely receives archival attention.

CD7 opens with the familiar charm of the Green Acres themes and moves quickly into a run of sharp humour from Asylum Street Spankers, The Beaumonts and Brennen Leigh. The tone shifts between wordplay, rural satire and outright chaos, with Jeremiah Perez, Rev. Billy C. Wirtz and Ted Shelton offering the kind of regional comedy that once lived on jukeboxes and late‑night radio. Weird Al’s truck‑driving parody ties the disc neatly to the novelty tradition.

CD8 blends pop‑culture references with modern country humour. Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett’s beachside shrug sits alongside Cledus T. Judd’s parody craft and the Dixie Chicks’ darkly comic storytelling. The Simpsons’ Canyonero commercials, Tyler Childers’ biting wit and Tom Paxton’s collaboration with John Prine give the disc a lively, unpredictable rhythm, while Webb Pierce and Zeb Turner anchor it with classic charm.

CD9 leans into cult favourites and character pieces. Dewey Cox’s soundtrack swagger, The Gourds’ legendary reinterpretation, Joe Diffie’s radio staple and Kinky Friedman’s dry humour sit comfortably beside newer voices like Dylan Earl, Kin Faux and Justin Clyde Williams. The mix of deep cuts, oddball singles and modern mischief creates a warm, late‑night jukebox feel.

CD10 closes the set with a cross‑generational sweep, from Austin Lounge Lizards’ satire and Bobby Bare’s gospel absurdity to Johnny Cash’s storytelling and Johnny Paycheck’s working‑man bite. The disc moves through barroom confessions, acoustic rambles and playful ensemble pieces, ending with k.d. lang’s brief curtain‑close.

MORE Possum Droppings is another affectionate, generous tribute to the funniest corners of western music.

PLEASE THANK BERNI FOR THE GREAT SET.
