These 40 "lost" tracks will take you back to that whole era (if you were there to begin with) or will give you a good idea of the kind of music being recorded and released in the Southern portion of the U.S. during that whole weird period.

Most of these obscure / off-the-radar bands have one or more 7" 45 singles out, with no LP's to their credit. Was getting something good out of about every band on this 2 CD offering. As I gave these two discs a second spin, I found much here well worth discovering, like the four tracks you get from the Berkeley Kites, Rugby's three cuts as well as The Jeans' handful of tunes. Also dug hearing what Randy & The Rest with their four songs (a band from Birmingham, Alabama). Looks like H. Y. Sledge and Randy & The Radiants (from Memphis Tennessee) both have one full album out. Another band here that I wanted to point out is Count & The Colony - from Bay City, Michigan - in which you get both sides of their 7". The 2-CD set comes housed in a sturdy hardcover gatefold case, one that includes a very informative 24-page booklet, packed with groovy vintage photos and reproductions of original single labels and album covers. A thoroughly enjoyable trip down the rabbit hole!.  Highly recommended. (Amazon)
