VA - We Can Fly, 1966-72 Psychedelic Obscurities [2008] (5 x CD's)

We Can Fly series presents rare psychedelic rock spanning the mid-'60s to the early '70s, mostly centering on U.K. psych of the late '60s, though there's a little spillover from both the British Invasion and early prog rock eras. It's not all from the U.K., either, with a good number of entries from Continental Europe, as well as stray items from Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., and even Lebanon.

This set contains all five volumes of the legendary We Can Fly series in an individually numbered limited edition of 1000. There are over 130 tracks here, which have been remastered for this release, sounding better than ever. Although a few pops and clicks remain, showing up the vinyl source of the material, the overall sound quality is very good. For collectors of this type of music the good news is that there is not much duplication of tracks between this and the more famous collections such as Nuggets and Rubble, and this new offering makes a good companion to those sets. Each volume has been compiled and sequenced by the legendary Nick Saloman (remember the Bevis Frond?) and provides a good mix of material from the very obscure to the very unlikely - QPR Supporters. Overall a nicely produced package which will undoubtedly become a collector's item within a short period of time. (Amazon)
