This box is a 3CD compilation of love songs from the 1950s and 1960s, released in 2015 by Fantastic Voyage, a UK-based label that specializes in reissues and compilations of vintage music. The box contains 90 songs by various artists, ranging from classic crooners like Nat King Cole and Doris Day to rock and roll stars like Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley. This box offers a diverse and nostalgic collection of songs that express different aspects of love, romance, and heartbreak. 

The songs are selected from a period of musical transition, when the traditional American Songbook style was challenged by the emergence of new genres and songwriters from the Brill Building and beyond. This compilation offers a glimpse into the changing tastes and trends of the 1950s and 1960s. There are many familiar songs while others are obscure and unfamiliar such as You Got a Heart Like a Rock by Charlie Gracie, Humpty Dumpty Heart by LaVern Baker, Cross My Heart (Hope to Die) by The Emjays and My Heart Became of Age by Annette. You get a range of 50s hitmakers who straddled both sections of the industry: the old and the new.  It was definitely a time of flux and a time of movement where the industry was undergoing a shake-up. This compilation does a good job in following that trend especially as it does so via the restricted love song sub-genre. (B)
