The Brown Acid series, Volumes 01 through 20, released between 2015 and 2025, is a landmark excavation of North American proto-metal, heavy psych, and acid rock obscurities. Curated by Lance Barresi (Permanent Records) and Daniel Hall (RidingEasy Records), each volume unearths rare 45s from the late ’60s to early ’80s, many of which never made it past local radio or garage pressings. These aren’t reissues of cult albums, they’re the deep cuts that never got their due.

Released on RidingEasy Records, the series began with The First Trip in 2015, featuring fuzz-drenched gems like Zekes’ “Box” and Raw Meat’s “Stand By Girl.” From there, each installment maintained a tight focus: 8-10 tracks, all officially licensed, sourced directly from band members or estates. No bootlegs, no filler. By The Twentieth Trip (2025), the series had become a trusted archive, with collectors and historians alike praising its consistency and depth.

Highlights across the run include the blistering “Warlords” by Stone Garden (Vol. 2), the proto-doom churn of White Lightning’s “William” (Vol. 3), and the hypnotic groove of Bacchus’s “Carry My Load” (Vol. 10). Many tracks were previously unreleased on CD, and some, like Crossfield’s “Take It”, had never appeared outside their original 7-inch pressings.

The artwork, designed by Jeri Yoshizu, is a visual throughline: psychedelic, eerie, and unmistakably retro. Each volume’s digipak packaging nods to vintage horror comics and underground zines, reinforcing the series’ outsider ethos.
