AUSTRALIAN BLUES

VA - Australian Blues (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2+CD3

For as long as music has been around, people have been singing the blues. While the Americans get the mainstream recognition for having given the genre its legs to stand on, the blues don’t discriminate, and for decades the Aussies have been telling their stories too.

Australia has a long history with blues music, and today you will still find it remains alive and well. There a many live blues events dotted around the country and new generations of blues-influenced bands springing up each year.  Still, blues doesn’t quite sit at the forefront of the Australian music scene as it does in some other countries. If we look back, we can see how deeply the blues tendrils have snaked through Australia's musical landscape over the years.  The great Australian group "Chain" is one band that can be trusted to deliver authentic Australian blues. Formed in 1968, the band brought blues music to Australia’s working class, fostering a dedicated underground following before breaking into the charts in the early seventies. Their success was unprecedented at the time and established them as an indelible name in Australian Blues. The set of tracks includes not only bands from the late 60's but also artists that have been around for years. You may hear some Australian music that you've never heard before. Some of these Blues bands and artists have played their music all over the world, but they are all Australian at heart.

I hope you enjoy these first 75 tracks. More in the future.

  3. Lots of happy memories of seeing Chain and Dave Hole playing in Perth pubs. I know Steve Tallis well and jammed with him back in the early 70s.
