Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910 – January 10, 1976), better known by his stage name Howlin' Wolf, was an American blues singer and guitarist. He was at the forefront of transforming acoustic Delta blues into electric Chicago blues, and over a four-decade career, recorded blues, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and psychedelic rock. He is regarded as one of the most influential blues musicians of all time. (Wikipedia)

Over the years many of his songs have been interpreted by rock bands, including "Little Red Rooster", "Back Door Man", "Killing Floor", & "Spoonful". Howlin Wolf, with his Memphis and Chicago recordings, his status and influence, surely is one of the vital links between Blues and Rock. He was inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991

These Charly, UK sets are not easy to find. Their sets are generally made with great care and pride. 151 Chess and Sun recordings- it is entitled "Complete" although it does not contain two very non-essential albums from the period (The Super, Super Plus Band from 1967 and the 1968 Cadet album aka "Howlin' Wolf Didn't Like This Album", and with good reason; both are quite disposable and unnecessary), plus a conversation; this is all from Sun and Chess, his very best stuff, the real essential recordings without a bad track in the lot. 

Hubert Sumlin is heard at his best, in his prime; the legendary guitar playing. 

The early Sun stuff is just awesome; the hard hittin' Sun recordings, pretty raw and powerful with Willie Johnson on guitar and some with Ike Turner. And of course, the magnificent Wolf, the fantastic vocals, the fantastic harp... the quintessential Chess recordings that inspired the Stones, Clapton, and a whole lot of other great blues players... the great harmonica players like Kim Wilson, Rod Piazza, James Harmon, Anson Funderburgh band.
