VA - Living In Oblivion, The 80's Greatest Hits [1993-1995] (5 x CDs)

The 5 CD series “Living In Oblivion, The 80’s Greatest Hits” is an extraordinary musical anthology that vividly brings to life the eclectic and energetic soundscape of the 1980s. This collection offers a thorough study of the decade’s diverse musical genres and movements. The series was brought to life by EMI Records, a label renowned for its varied lineup and dedication to high-quality music. Their participation guarantees a superior standard of song selection and production, making the series a trustworthy and pleasurable auditory experience.

The 1980s was a time of musical revolution and experimentation. Genres were not just being mixed but also transformed, giving birth to fresh and exciting sounds. This series encapsulates this adventurous spirit and artistic creativity. It spans a wide range of styles that were the hallmark of the era, from the electronic beats of new wave to the infectious rhythms of pop.

A standout feature of the series is its emphasis on new wave, a genre that was at the forefront of the early 80s. Defined by its electronic undertones, new wave marked a departure from the rock and disco sounds of the previous decade. The series highlights the genre’s distinctive fusion of punk’s defiant attitude with the cutting-edge allure of synthesizers. As the decade unfolded, so did its music. The series mirrors this progression, charting the shift from the synth-laden tunes of the early 80s to the more guitar-centric rock and pop that typified the decade’s latter years. It encapsulates the changing musical preferences and trends, offering listeners a snapshot of the decade’s dynamic musical evolution. The series also ventures into the world of MTV hits, underscoring the increasing role of music videos in shaping popular music. These tracks encapsulate the audio-visual extravaganza that was MTV, providing a window into the decade’s synthesis of music and visual creativity.

“Living In Oblivion, The 80’s Greatest Hits” is a musical treasure chest that encapsulates the sounds, styles, and essence of the 1980s. Whether you’re an aficionado of the era or an inquisitive listener, this series offers a rich and immersive voyage into one of the most thrilling periods in music history. (B)

    1. Hi meanie.
It would be ordinary for a label release; however, in this case the artist may not have had a hit until the 80's. I am not sure because I haven't checked.
      Cheers.

    2. I know that Grip by The Stranglers and TRB 2468 were both 77 and charted well, both are excellent tracks. As ever, a fantastic compilation with some bands that I have never heard of. Thank you once more.

  5. OK The 80's were fun for me, I (we) had 3 boys, in 80, 83 and 85. So these tunes were part of that time. Thanks BB.

    1. Hi Richard Bock,
I often overlooked the 80s in favour of earlier times and then the 90s, however I am glad to say I am enjoying the sounds of the 80s more and more. Enjoy this set.
