    2. Hi BB...

Yes I do have it in some incarnation already, but made sure to get this too since you have them ALL together, and perhaps better sounding than what I have. All considered, I think there are really not a great number of what I would call "good" powerpop compilations around and this is one of the larger attempts I know of. I "discovered" powerpop as a genre, and not just individual songs, years ago when I was seeking and searching for things Beatlesque. So turns out I love the melodic nature of powerpop, but I have found the term and hallmarks of powerpop, rightly or wrongly, definitely means different things to different people. So compilations and their content will vary greatly on whoever is deciding what music fits into the category, as they understand it to be. It's the same with any genre, of course, but just seems a bit more chaotic with powerpop for some reason. It's interesting, perhaps because there is such a variety of styles within the powerpop definition or because of my own thoughts and preferences. Being a compilation aficionado and accomplished archivist yourself, I know you understand this conundrum well. But then also (as I know you know) it is really just about the music itself, when we hear it, and the way it's experienced, and not about what anyone thinks to call or label it. Definitely, we need more tuneful compilations, powerpop or not.. so any and all attempts are welcome! There's nothing quite like discovering a great new old tune! It has been said (or maybe not)... A life of dramatic melody will always offset the melodramatics of life. That's gotta be the REAL Power of Pop!

Enough of my unsolicited nonsense... Thanks BB

    3. Hi mrRadio.
Your closing thought is beautifully put: “A life of dramatic melody will always offset the melodramatics of life.” This encapsulates the profound impact of music, whatever the genre.
Again, it’s wonderful to hear your thoughts on powerpop and music compilations. It is clear you have a passion for music, especially for the melodic nature of powerpop. You’re absolutely right that the term “powerpop” can mean different things to different people, and that’s part of what makes it such a fascinating genre. The variety of styles within the powerpop definition only adds to its charm and appeal.

As you’ve pointed out, the content of compilations can vary greatly depending on the compiler’s understanding of the genre. This can lead to a certain level of chaos, but it also opens up opportunities for discovery and exploration. There’s indeed nothing quite like discovering a great new old tune!
I couldn’t agree more with your sentiment that we need more tuneful compilations, whether they’re powerpop or not. Every attempt at creating a compilation, which I adore doing, contributes to the rich tapestry of music that offers listeners a chance to embark on new auditory adventures. The intricate process of music curation and the significance of the listening experience is always in the back of my mind.
I’m grateful for your shared wisdom and enthusiasm for music with me. It’s always a pleasure.
      Cheers.

  4. Thanks for this series, BB! I think the best comps are the ones that are put together with the love and respect for said genre. A lot of music labels package these things just for a cynical cash grab. But as you and others here has proved, we take great joy in sharing the music we think are worth listening to, like Power Pop, Very few out there in the internet world disappoint. Know you genres, music labels!
