BRUCE SPRIGSTEEN
Bruce Springsteen - Tracks [1998] + Tracks II, The Lost Albums [2025] (11 x CDs)
Bruce Springsteen - Tracks [1998] Back in 1998, Bruce Springsteen gave fans something they’d been dreaming about for years: a deep dive into the vault. Tracks wasn’t just a box set—it was a four-disc journey through the songs that didn’t make the albums, but easily could’ve. With 66 tracks, including 56 previously unreleased, it felt like Bruce was finally letting us peek behind the curtain.
The set kicks off with acoustic demos from 1972, raw, poetic sketches that helped land his first record deal. From there, it moves through outtakes from Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River, and Born in the U.S.A., revealing just how much material Springsteen had in reserve. Songs like “Roulette,” “Pink Cadillac,” and “My Love Will Not Let You Down” aren’t just curios—they’re full-throttle, album-worthy cuts that show Bruce at his most urgent and inspired.
What’s striking is the quality. These aren’t half-baked ideas, they’re polished, passionate, and often more daring than the tracks that made the final albums. You get ballads, rockers, character studies, and even alternate versions that shift the emotional tone entirely.
The packaging includes a lyric booklet and liner notes that give context to Bruce’s creative process. It’s clear he wrote hundreds of songs per album cycle, and Tracks is the proof. For longtime fans, it’s a treasure trove. For newcomers, it’s a revelation. And for Bruce? It’s a reminder that even his “leftovers” shine with grit, grace, and storytelling fire.
Bruce Springsteen - Tracks II, The Lost Albums [2025] If you’ve ever wondered what Bruce Springsteen was really up to during those so-called “quiet years,” Tracks II: The Lost Albums is your answer, and then some. This is a sprawling secret history finally set free. This collection unearths seven previously unreleased full-length albums, recorded between 1983 and 2018, and locked away until now. That’s 83 tracks, with 74 never heard before, not demos, not half-formed sketches, but complete albums that Bruce simply... put aside.
And now we know why. Each of these “lost albums” plays like a time capsule from an alternate Springsteen timeline. There’s LA Garage Sessions ’83, lo-fi, post-Nebraska, and humming with rust-belt gospel. Then Streets of Philadelphia Sessions arrives like a late-night confession set against looped drums and shadowy synths, echoing ‘90s isolation. Somewhere North of Nashville slides in with pedal steel ghosts and honky-tonk soul, while Twilight Hours swells with orchestral melancholy that feels kin to Western Stars after the sun’s gone down. Faithless? That’s Bruce in widescreen mode, a cinematic companion to a movie that was never shot. Inyo drifts along the desert borderlands with mariachi textures and dusky grace. And Perfect World lands with E Street power, anthemic, hungry, and completely dialed in.
The rarities sparkle throughout: “County Fair,” “God Sent You,” and “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone”, “Rain in the River,” “The Klansman,” “Between Heaven and Goodbye”, songs fans whispered about for years, now fully realized and lovingly sequenced. Tracks II doesn’t rewrite history, it reveals it.
It’s a front-row ticket to the alternate Springsteen timeline, the roads he never drove onstage, the songs he wrote when the world wasn’t watching, and the characters he whispered into tape at midnight. For the longtime faithful, it’s a long-overdue windfall of stories we only imagined existed. For the curious wanderer, it’s a crash course in Bruce at his rawest and most restless. Either way, Tracks II is the sound of the vault door swinging open and Bruce stepping through, fully formed, unfiltered, and finally heard the way he always meant to be. (B)

ReplyDeleteBB, grateful as always, you're unique.
Hi eme_eh.
DeleteThank you so much for your gracious words. That means a great deal to me.
It’s always a joy to know when a posted set connects. Enjoy!
Cheers.
Fabulous! Thanks, BB!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, Frank D. Badenius.
DeleteCheers.
Cripes . . . a mega bursting collection of Boss Man Bruce - all rarities that need a close listen. Well, 'tis the school summer holidays and I always keep a low profile when the tourists take over Mordor with their offspring. This is a cool posting Butterboy, so thank you. Last time I saw Bruce in concert was way back in 1999 or 2000 at Earls Court - where the infamous echo effect of that venue gave the sound of the band a unique ambience, a sound truly captured in my bootleg recording of the date. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteHi Man from Mordor.
DeleteYou paint such a vivid picture. Bruce echoing through the corridors of Earls Court like some mythic bard on a steel horse.
These are raw, unpredictable and full of stories whispered between the official releases. From lo-fi gospel murmurs to widescreen cinematic swells, it's Bruce peeling back the curtain and letting us glimpse the songs written when no one was watching. These lost albums are magic. Enjoy every moment.
Cheers.
Wow...this is fantastic! Saw Bruce for the 6th. time in Manchester a few months ago. Would eventually like to buy this set on both CD and LP but too broke at the moment. Have a massive pile of Springsteen and associated stuff since I first bought Born To Run in 1975.
ReplyDeleteHi Montax.
DeleteThere’s some serious devotion and miles behind your story. This set is tailor-made for fans like you, packed with rarities that feel like old friends finally coming to visit.
Cheers.
I forgot to mention,I do have the first 'Tracks' collection. As for 'II'...well,Christmas and birthday is coming!
DeleteFantastic !!! I visit your blog everyday!! One thing i noticed, on Tracks II, the album art for CD 3 Faithless is in the file for CD 4, Somewhere North of Nashville.
ReplyDeleteHi Mikei.
DeleteThanks so much for your kind words and for being a regular visitor, that means the world.
Great catch on the album art misplacement. I will update the files so Faithless and Somewhere North of Nashville now wear the right jackets. I appreciate your sharp eye and support.
Cheers.
Wow! Just wow! Seeing The Boss is on my bucket list.
ReplyDeleteHi Berni.
DeleteHere's hoping that bucket-list dream gets ticked off soon. You deserve that night of thunder. The energy, the sweat, the communion between Bruce and the crowd, it’s legendary for a reason.
Enjoy these two box sets. His new/lost material is great.
Cheers.
Big Bruce fan. Crazy expensive. Thanks BB
ReplyDeleteMe too, lemonflag.
DeleteYes, the prices on some of these rarities can be downright crazy but keeping the music accessible is what it’s all about here.
Cheers.
Thanks heaps BB, I already have the Tracks box set, now I am really looking forward to listening to the other albums. This would be appear to be a real treasure.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bruce D.
DeleteSince you've already got the original Tracks box, you’re going to have a blast diving into these “lost albums.” Each one feels like unlocking a secret chapter of Bruce’s creative soul. Enjoy this musical treasure trove.
Cheers.
