With 100 tracks spread across five themed discs, it’s less a compilation and more a curated museum of rhythm.

CD1 kicks off with Disco & Afro, featuring Lamont Dozier’s “Going Back to My Roots,” Claudja Barry’s “Sweet Dynamite,” and CJ & Co’s “Devil’s Gun.” It’s a glittery, bass-heavy ride through dancefloor classics and deep cuts, including a rare extended mix of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes’ “Don’t Leave Me This Way” that’s not the Tom Moulton version — a real treat for collectors.

CD2 dives into Funk & Soul, with heavy hitters like Average White Band’s “Pick Up the Pieces,” African Music Machine’s “Black Water Gold,” and Ike Turner’s “Funky Mule.” There’s also a surprising appearance by Bill Cosby with “Funky North Philly,” and a slew of lesser-known grooves from labels like Arpady’s and obscure studio outfits.

CD3 is where things get delightfully weird — the Psychedelic disc includes Gabor Szabo’s “Sophisticated Wheels,” Serge Gainsbourg’s “En Melody,” Roland Vincent’s “L.S.D. Partie,” and Shocking Blue’s “Acka Raga.” It’s a swirling mix of sitar beats, cinematic psych, and European lounge-funk, with tracks like “Hascisch Party” and “Pygar’s Persecution” adding a kitschy, cult-film vibe.

CD4 focuses on Soundtracks, pulling themes from TV and film with Quincy Jones, Lalo Schifrin, Henry Mancini, and Rudy Ray Moore. It’s a crate-digger’s dream — full of moody instrumentals, blaxploitation grooves, and rare cues from shows like Ironside and Starsky & Hutch.

Finally, CD5 explores 70s Jazz, with cuts from Cal Tjader, Carla Bley, Ahmad Jamal, and Sérgio Mendes. There’s Jobim, Stan Getz, and even France Gall’s “Jazz À Go Go,” blending bossa, modal jazz, and cinematic cool.

Though unofficial, the set is packed with rarities and deep cuts, many sourced from vinyl and private pressings. It’s not digitally pristine, but that’s part of its charm — a dusty, joyful celebration of groove culture in all its forms. (B)
