Elvis Presley – Sunset Boulevard [2025] (5 x CDs)

ELVIS PRESLEY

Elvis Presley – Sunset Boulevard [2025] (5 x CDs)

Sunset Boulevard was released by Sony Legacy in partnership with RCA Records. It isn’t just another Elvis box, it’s the one fans didn’t know they were waiting for. Focused entirely on Presley’s under-documented sessions at RCA’s Studio C in Hollywood, this 5CD set pulls back the curtain on a period often overshadowed by Vegas glitz and televised spectacle. What emerges is a portrait of Elvis as a working artist, vulnerable, soulful, and still chasing magic.

CD1 opens with newly remixed masters from albums like Elvis (The Fool Album) and Today, stripped of overdubs and studio polish. Tracks like Pieces of My Life, Separate Ways, and Always On My Mind land with raw emotional force. These aren’t the swaggering hits of the '50s, they’re reflective, genre-blurring gems that reveal a man wrestling with fame, heartbreak, and the passage of time.

But the real gold lies in CDs Two through Five: nearly three hours of rehearsals, outtakes, and studio banter from 1970 and 1974. Many of these recordings have never been released in full, and they’re a revelation. Elvis works through Polk Salad Annie, Bridge Over Troubled Water, and Stranger in My Own Home Town with the TCB Band, cracking jokes, adjusting arrangements, and occasionally slipping into songs he never officially recorded, like The Twelfth of Never and Softly As I Leave You. These moments feel intimate, alive, and deeply human.

The packaging is equally thoughtful, rare photos, detailed liner notes by Colin Escott, and a heartfelt introduction from Jerry Schilling. It’s not just a retrospective, it’s a reintroduction.

For longtime collectors, this is essential. For newer fans, it’s a chance to hear Elvis without the myth, just the voice, the soul, and the search. Sunset Boulevard doesn’t just fill in the gaps. It rewrites the narrative. (B)

  2. Thanks BB. I don't think Elvis realized how good he was. He wasted his talent doing what the Colonel told him to do. He and Sam created the music that we follow today. A wonderful voice that was squandered after he got out of the army. He could sing like no one else could. We are lucky to have his music.

    1. Hi lemonflag.
      Beautifully said.
The tension between raw talent and commercial machinery is laid bare in this set, especially in those Studio C rehearsals. He sounds unguarded, playful, and deeply present. It’s a reminder of what could’ve been, and what still shines through despite it all. We really are lucky to have these moments preserved.
      Cheers.
