VA - Twilight Time, Should'a Been Singles (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2+CD3

TWILIGHT TIME  -  SHOULDA' BEEN SINGLES

VA - Twilight Time, Should'a Been Singles (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2+CD3

A single is a typically released for sale to the public in a variety of different formats. In most cases, a single is a song that is released separately from an album, although it usually (but not always) also appears on an album.  The concept of the single has been to present an artist’s most immediate work for mass consumption and appreciation, often as a trailer for an album. Most of the time that choice is is best one to drive album sales.

However, many terrific tracks remain hidden on an album. These track have been overlooked. Sometimes there is a hit lurking on the B-Sides of singles from that album. There are literally thousands of great album tracks that are as good as the singles released from an album that could, nay SHOULD, be on this list. Due to the subjective nature of a songs appeal to the individual listener there could be hundreds of compilations of great material that could be generated. Alternatively, there are also many tracks that live on the B-Sides of singles that should have been on albums. (This will be for another series of compilations to come. Stay tuned)

For this compilation I try to highlight album tracks that I feel should have been Singles but were not, songs like The Moodys Blues 'Twighlight Time". The songs on this compilation are presented in year order. Enjoy!

  1. You are absolutely correct. Some of them should have been singles. Another one that get's a lot of request from the low rider fans is " left with a broken heart" , the Four Tops. You are amazing, keep up the good work.

  2. Although only a lonely B-side upon its release, I would suggest that over the years, "Silver Springs" has turned into a major hit. Another sterling selection, Butterboy! Of course, the all-time leaders in shoulda/coulda/woulda-been singles are the Beatles, IMHO, and I suspect the HO of most.
