Link Wray - Guitar Preacher The Polydor Years (1971-74) [1974]
If all you know of Link Wray is Rumble, you missed out on his mid career recordings of roots music. Link and his brothers grew up dirt poor so this is not the polite roots music of suburban kids studying roots music at an upscale college....this is real and raw. The four albums these tracks come from our out of pricng and cost a fortune on Ebay or Amazon so this is the best way to hear the music. Sadly it appears this set is also out of print but there are affordable options for purchasing it.  The rock and roll music on this compilation of songs is excellent. Link Wray was a rock and roll pioneer who inspired many other musicians with his great music. I highly recommend this compilation to fans of Link and to anyone who has not heard much of his music. He was a rock and roll man who never got the credit he deserved, but Link your music lives on. I never tire of this music.

Link Wray - The Rumbling Guitar Sound of Link Wray 1958-1962 [2013]
Showing you don t need to be a technical virtuoso to alter the face of modern music, Link Wray stands tall as one of rock's most influential figures. Inadvertently inventing the fuzz tone by meeting a pencil and amplifier cone, Wray's biggest hit Rumble remains a signpost to modern rock having an influence on acts as diverse as The Who to The White Stripes.     This two disc cd is great. You get Link's well known tracks plus other great tunes. For someone looking to get into Link Wray's music this is a good start. If you're like me who already owns most of his music through various LP's or CD's, I'd still recommend this C for some of the lesser known tunes that are just as good as the other stuff. (Amazon)

  4. The two Polydor albums are drop dead fantastic, both sold poorly particularly the second which he recorded and put out as Mordicai Jones !! - with minimal instrumentation and recorded on a 3 track machine, the sound is pure and clean as if they recorded it yesterday, I urge you all to listen to both Albums !!

    1. Hi Rockolababy.
I agree, fantastic recordings. I still have three original albums of the first with the cut-out cover. Every track a winner.
      Cheers.
