CLIFF RICHARD
Cliff Richard - Cooler Than You Think (A Butterboy Compilation)
Sir Cliff Richard OBE (born Harry Rodger Webb; 14 October 1940) is a British singer, musician, performer, actor and philanthropist. Richard has sold more than 250 million records worldwide. He has total sales of over 21 million singles in the United Kingdom and is the third-top-selling artist in UK Singles Chart history, behind the Beatles and Elvis Presley.
Cliff Richard's finest era, 1976 - 1989 is for me a special period in the artists life. In 1976, the decision was made to repackage Richard as a "rock" artist. That year Bruce Welch (from the Shadows) relaunched Cliff's career and produced the landmark album I'm Nearly Famous, which included the successful but controversial guitar-driven track "Devil Woman", which became Richard's first true hit in the United States, and the ballad "Miss You Nights". In reviewing the new album in Melody Maker, Geoff Brown heralded it the renaissance of Richard. Bruce Welch revived his former lead-singer’s career by pushing him in a more blue-eyed soul direction and encouraging him to stretch his vocal range. Vocally, Cliff is singing much higher and with far greater emotion and elasticity than what he did in the 50s and 60s. Just listen to the to the falsetto-dipping Why Should The Devil Have All The Good Music. Over half the tracks on this compilation are from this period That is not to discount his other periods, all of which have a multitude of wonderful and memorable music tracks and styles, including the first track, the1958 hit single "Move It" which was labeled by John Lennon as Britain's first authentic rock and roll song . (Wikipedia)
Whilst this compilation picks tracks from 1958 - 2015, there is emphasis on Cliffs renaissance period 1976 - 1989. The 36 tracks here also highlights some of Cliff Richards more enjoyable deeper cuts. Enjoy.
