Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - CSNY 1974 [2014] (3 x CD's)

CROSBY, STILL, NASH & YOUNG

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - CSNY 1974 [2014] (3 x CD's)

CSNY 1974 captures the band's one-of-a-kind harmonic alchemy during its remarkable outdoor stadium tour, a trek that spanned more than two months and included 31 concerts, in 24 cities, with combined audiences of over a million people. Produced by Graham Nash and Joel Bernstein, this 40th anniversary boxed set features 40 live tracks spread over 3 CD' s.

This box set is a wonderful addition to the collections of CSNY fans and is a chronicle of what has been referred to as the "Doom Tour" in which a rock band was engulfed by the decadence of the era and performed in stadium settings that were not the best forums for their work. I have always been a fan of the superstar group and its members and this is a very good quality boxed set. The three CD's are a nice mixture of some of the band's finest works but also feature lots material from the solo albums of the individual members with Neil Young getting a good portion of it for some of his otherwise more obscure works. The sound is very good and the song selection is nice although not as full of hits as some may like.  (Amazon)

A great box set from an extraordinary band at their peak.

  1. Thanks so much. I remember this tour, but was a few years too young to be allowed to attend.

    1. Hi heartofstone.
I have never seen them in concert other than in film footage. I have seen 4 Neil Young concerts though.
      Enjoy this set of CSN&Y.

      Cheers.

  2. As a teenager, this was my first major rock concert at Capital Center in Landover, Maryland. My friends and I borrowed a car from a sister, drove over two hours to get there, stoned, and quickly ran inside. Afterwards, we realized that while leaving the circular venue, we forgot to take note of where we parked the car. We literally had to wait hours, in the night, until enough of the parking lot emptied out that we could spot the vehicle. Totally worth it though.
I do have to say, 4 Way Street is still a better live album. There's something kind of shrill about the performances on 1974 that wasn't evident at the time. Perhaps too much coke and ego affecting the camaraderie? Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Vaughn,
I was in two mids whether to posy 4 Way Street or this one. I guess you know which I prefered on that days listening. Maybe next time I would prefer 4 Way Street. Either way together they were a fantastic group.

Thanks for sharing your memories of the concert, Sounds a little like a Seinfeld episode looking for your car. I am jealous that I wasn't there. Never seen them in concert. Live is the best way to hear music.

      Cheers.

  5. Hi BB, thanks so much for your hard work maintaining the blog! I've been listening to the "Ditch era" NY albums for the first time (yes, they are new to me other than the tracks on Decade) for the last month and would love to check out the CSNY 1974 set. Would it be possible to reup this set? Thank you again.
