LOST 60's
VA - Forgotten & Lost Tracks of The 60's (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2+CD3
The sixties was a historic era for music that gave some magnificent and varied music, often experiment in nature and full of life.
Presented here is a world somewhere between "lost" and "hits." of the sixties. Tracks that you simply don't hear too often, in some cases totally forgotten by the majority of people. This compilation features many major stars of the era, however, more notable are the one-hit wonders whose names may be recalled (and then probably only vaguely) by some listeners. For the most part this is a collection of pop recordings, originally released on 45 RPM singles between 1960 and 1969, which resulted in music being quickly taken off of the radio or never broadcasted at all. With the abundance of music artists coming into the music industry and new record releases, the rich music of the 60’s has often gotten lost or forgotten. The bulk of these selections, then, were minor hits that will be remembered by people who were listening to AM radio during the second half of the 1960's.
As usual there at tracks that you will know and some you may not. All in all an unusual compilation including a few rarities. This is volume 1 of this series. Enjoy!

Great Stuff Here! Many of my favorites represented.. very enjoyable. I'm happy there's more to come.
ReplyDeleteThe People's cover of The Zombies B-side "I Love You" was unique and special at the time.. still is. The stereo version here is taken from the album, which was not the hit rendition. The one heard on radio was recorded a little differently, punched up on some of the drums and guitar, but mainly with the organ part, which is different on the 45, and much better. Here's a link to the 45 version, which is only available in Mono as far as I know. Back in the 45 days I would hear or buy the 45 first and then purchase the album if I really liked the song and wanted more, or wanted it in stereo, or even possibly an extended version. In this instance I remember being really disappointed in the album's version. You can hear the difference in the organ part, particularly during the solo at around 3:10 in the video. Check it out...

Thanks BB
Hi mrRadio,
DeleteFirstly, Thanks for the link of the version you say is the better one and your comments that support that. I only have the track from compilation albums and not the original single. I probably should have made it clear in the above blurb.
I have several versions. The on that bets fits with your recommendation (as per YT video) I think, is this one.

I know this is dirty pool - it is, after all, a request - but when I noted that your Forgotten 60s didn't have any Allan Sherman tracks on it, I couldn't help but wonder if there was any hope of your digging up MY SON THE BOX (Rhino's retrospective, which is probably the only A.S. that's less than impossible to find)?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, my face is awful red....I NEVER make requests, honest....well, except for this one time.
Hi S D Joe,
DeleteI have what you are looking for but it will be a few days before I post it. I haven't played it for a long time and will have to dig it out.
I will leave a response and Links in these comments section for you.
Cheers
BB, you are the best! Thank you, man! And take your time, brother.....the extra wait will only sweeten the moment of their arrival.
