GREAT DEBUT SINGLES      PART 2

VA - Up In Lights, Great DEBUT Singles Vol. 02 ( A Butterboy Compilation) (4 x CD's)

First impressions are so important, back in the old days, bands used to release things called "albums", which were often introduced by items known as "singles". As a buyer, the idea was you listened to the radio and heard a song you liked, then physically went to the record store and bought the single. If you really enjoyed the single – and could afford it – you then went and bought the whole album. I guess people do still buy albums, but that single? You hear it on a Spotify playlist and, if you could be bothered, you look up the artist. Old man warning: Things were better in the old days. (weekendnotes.com)

The medium may change from analog to digital, but there’s always something magical about a great single, a record that can change your life in four minutes or less, and there’s a special knack to coming up with a classic your first time out of the gate. Even the most brilliant artists haven’t always managed that and there are a few world-class bands who had an underwhelming single or two before their big breakthrough. Still, there are quite a few artists who claimed their territory with the first notes of their first single, and below are the greatest debut 45 records. A few were great one-offs, but most were the start of a long career. (udiscovermusic.com)

A great debut single is the opening line in a conversation you never want to end, and hearing a band or artist get it right on their first try is one of the greatest thrills in music. (Rolling stone)

    1. Hi The Cairman,
      Thank you.
That will be it for a little while, 2 volumes each 4 track lists should suffice for now.
There are many more and will be picked up in the future.

      Cheers.

  7. A good number of super-strong artists landed running on the charts, seizing our ears and attention; thank you for bringing us more of them, Butter - and for including recent-year strong debuts to remind us that artists still have the talent and creativity to knock us over. Cheers!

    1. Hi Aging Child,
Great debuts just keep coming. I could have created a larger set of discs I feel this was where it felt good. 2 volumes x 4 discs requires a lot of attention.

      Cheers

    2. And it clearly has been worth that attention... and you both healthfully and generously know where to gently draw the line, and mosey along to the next artist and concept. Thank you for that attention, and for your dedication and love both to music, and to the interests of all your visitors. Like the Candy Man, you make everything you bake satisfying and delicious. Cheers!
