NOVELTY SONGS

The Bestest Novelty Songs SEEDEE1 +SEEDEE2 + SEEDEE3 (A Butterboy Compilation)

A novelty song is a comical or nonsensical song, performed principally for its comical effect. Humorous songs, or those containing humorous elements, are not necessarily novelty songs. The term arose in Tin Pan Alley to describe one of the major divisions of popular music; the other two divisions were ballads and dance music. Novelty songs achieved great popularity during the 1920s and 1930s. They had a resurgence of interest in the 1950s and 1960s. Novelty songs are often a parody or humor song, and may apply to a current event such as a holiday or a fad such as a dance or tv programme. Many use unusual lyrics, subjects, sounds, or instrumentation, and may not even be musical. For example, the 1966 novelty song "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!" has little music and is set to a rhythm tapped out on a snare drum and tambourine.

A book on achieving an attention-grabbing novelty single is The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way), written by The KLF. It is based on their achievement of a UK number-one single with "Doctorin' the Tardis", a 1988 dance remix mashup of the Doctor Who theme music released under the name of 'The Timelords.' It argued that (at the time) achieving a number one single could be achieved less by musical talent than through market research, sampling and gimmicks matched to an underlying danceable groove.... Coming to take me away indeed, Ha Ha Ha.. (Wikipedia)

Novelty songs fall outside the boundaries of standard pop music primarily because they are created to provoke humor or commentary. Frequently, novelty songs parody something else in popular culture. These examples were chosen for their originality, wit, humor. Most novelty songs are comic takes of current events, cultural fads, along with parodies of established hit songs, sometimes even using animal noises or sound effects. Hope you enjoy these BESTEST Novelety Songs.

    1. You just trying to butter me up.
They are a litle ciche, however I have tried to include Uk and USA humour with a little Aussie material thrown in and always Old and new.

      Cheers

  2. You and your music - and artwork - already are a fine, smooth butter, worth spreading on *both* sides of the bread. Thank you for veering beyond the cliché'd… that would have been too easy; instead, we have a fine balance of different musical wellsprings: lots to discover, alongside the long-appreciated... cheers!

  3. Dayumm... Takes me back to those Sunday evenings in the mid- to late-1970s when we'd eagerly tune into Dr. Demento on one of the San Jose, CA FM radio stations for our weekly dose of novelty, "naughty" humor, and lord knows what else. Thanks for this and all of your other fantastic comps--I've discovered a ton of great music here (although I probably wouldn't put "Convoy" in that category; that one's more of a guilty nostalgic pleasure...).
