The Complete Capitol Four Freshmen Fifties Sessions, released in 2000 by Mosaic Records, is a hand-numbered, limited-edition 9-CD box set that chronicles the entire Capitol output of The Four Freshmen from 1950 to 1959. It’s a deep dive into the group’s most fertile period, capturing their transformation from Kenton protégés into one of the most harmonically adventurous vocal ensembles of the era.

Across 9 CDs you get 14 full albums, including Voices in Modern, Four Freshmen and Five Trombones, Love Lost, Voices in Latin, and Freshmen Favorites Vol. 2. The set also includes rare singles, 24 previously unreleased tracks, and alternate takes, many of which had never been available in any format. The mastering preserves both mono and stereo mixes, and the accompanying booklet features detailed sessionography, liner notes, and archival photos, making it a goldmine for collectors and vocal jazz historians alike. Disc I to V are mono, Disc VI to IX are stereo.

Stylistically, the Freshmen fused barbershop precision with jazz voicings, often mimicking horn arrangements in their vocal charts.
