VA - It's In My Soul (A Butterboy Compilation), Memphis Soul, Chicago Soul, New Orleans Soul and Philadelphia Soul (12 x CDs) PART 4 PHILADELPHIA SOUL

MORE SOUL MUSIC

VA  - It's In My Soul (A Butterboy Compilation), Memphis Soul, Chicago Soul, New Orleans Soul and Philadelphia Soul (12 x CDs)

As promised here are other soul sub-genres which will  be compiled at a later date. Including Memphis Soul, Chicago Soul, New Orleans Soul and Philadelphia Soul.

PHILADELPHIA SOUL, sometimes called Philly soul, the Philadelphia sound, Phillysound, or TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia), is a genre of late 1960's–1970's soul music characterized by funk influences and lush instrumental arrangements, often featuring sweeping strings and piercing horns. The genre laid the groundwork for disco by fusing the R&B rhythm sections of the 1960's with the pop vocal tradition, and featuring a slightly more pronounced jazz influence in its melodic structures and arrangements. Fred Wesley, the trombonist of the James Brown band and Parliament-Funkadelic, described the signature deep but orchestrated sound as "putting the bow tie on funk."

Presented here are 12 x CD's of  Soul music, specifically 60 tracks each of each sub-genre is 3 x CD's and will be posted each day until each set of CD's is complete. I hope you enjoy the choices.

    2. Ufff, maybe this is complete overview and should stay like that, i dont have some good idea, but compilations are excelent, i dont know idioms of soul very well. You can do Stax, Motown but there is already many good compilations/overviews of them. Maybe one big Hi Records or Muscle shoals compilation...Malaco....Or maybe old school funk (before disco and 80s, just raw)? You have already one fantastic collection of psychedelic soul....but i cant get enough of that groove

  10. I grew up on this sound (and a small handful of others), and so am happy to see many old friends on these disks - and they brought along friends of theirs I'm going enjoy meeting and hanging out with. Thank you for giving this slice of a genre your loving attention, Butter; cheers! PS: nice triptych cover(s)!

    1. Hi Aging Child,
Glad to hear you are attracted to this set of Philly. The whole 4 set in this series of CD's has a scene of the city skyline in a triptych format. I felt that type of cover fit best for this series. And hopefully a little interesting.

      Cheers.
