K Tells Vol. 08

K-tells

Play That Funky 'Music'!

Music Explosion - 22 Original Hits - 22 Original Stars (K-tel TE 305 UK) (2021 Remaster) (1974)    Music Explosion was originally released by K-tel in the UK only in 1974. It contained 4 UK #1 singles. Fully remastered in 2021 it now features all the original unedited 7" single mixes, including a few hard-to-find tracks, with a new running time of 76:35 CD length.

Music Express - 20 Original Hits - 20 Original Stars (K-tel TE 702 UK) (2021 Remaster) (1975)    Music Express was originally released by K-tel in the UK only in late 1975 and eventually reached #3 in the UK album charts on January 31st, 1976. Fully remastered in 2021 it now features all the original unedited 7" single mixes, including a few hard-to-find tracks, with a new running time of 66:40 CD length.

Music Machine - Original Stars - Original Hits (K-tel TU 2560 US - TC 243 CAN - TB 296 BRA) (2022, 45th Anniversary Remastered Expanded Edition) (1977)        Widely considered to be one of the best K-tel albums of the 70s in the US, Canada and Brazil, mainly because a whopping 16 number one hits are included between all three editions. The album was originally released by K-tel in 1977 in the US, Canada and Brazil. They each had different track listings. Not only was the cover of 'Robbie the Robot' much adored, but there were two free posters included inside featuring Andy Gibb and KC of the Sunshine Band!

Interesting note: Electric Light Orchestra listed on the front cover of the US edition as a performer, though none of their songs appear on this record. On some copies this inaccurate information was covered with a sticker: "Bonus Inside / K.C. & Andy Gibb Posters!"

This 2022 remaster has been compiled to include the very best track selections from all three versions, now making a 22-track compilation with a running time of 76:57 CD length.

Enjoy!

K

Hi all downloaders.

Just a gentle reminder to acknowledge K. who goes to a lot of effort to ensure you have a wonderful listening experience on these compilations. Very rarely do I see thanks to him for his genuine hard work and the time and effort to make 100% sure all tracks are the original 7” single edits and mixes featured on most of his album posts.   Let him know what you think of the albums, your thoughts on the sound quality, digital editing, consistent volume levels throughout, artwork and research, etc.  A message can always be sent later, after listening to the shares. There is no time limit on comments.

Please take that step further and thank K for these posts. Appreciated.

Cheers

BB

  1. Hey there K and BB -- these albums are a delight, and I really appreciate you putting them together. Now all you need is to include the original TV commercials for the records...

Thanks again! This blog has led me to so much good music. It's a wonderful thing.

  2. Hi K & BB,
Just want to say that I'm a mid 80s Baby and I find these releases an absolute delight. I have no clue who/what I'm listening to but it brings a calmness to my soul. Blessings from the 80s ;). @K you a superstar man, I wouldn't have even come across these releases if wasn't for a random song playing on Youtube one day that caught my attention. Thx Again.

  5. Thanks K (meticulous sourcing & compiling) and BB (broadcasting).

These comps were often well selected but had sub-standard sound, transfers, manufacturing, etc.

I love the way K is bringing them back...the same as we remember them...but much improved.

It's nostalgic, but modern, and just a lot of good music! Cheers!

  8. I love these K-Tel series'. K-Tel and also Ronco. Is why I started making comps myself. First cassettes, then CD's then playlists. The way these are put together, redone, is amazing. Taking all the best parts and getting rid of the few downsides to K-Tel to make these is just a work of wonder. Thanks!!!!
