K's 1979 SPECIAL VA - The 150 Best Singles of 1979 (2022 Super Deluxe Edition) (8 x CD's)

K's  1979 SPECIAL          VA - The 150 Best Singles of 1979 (2022 Super Deluxe Edition) (8 x CD's)

As a follow up to the recent "Revolt into Style 1979" here is my own compilation of the 150 best singles of 1979.

I've said for years that for me 1979 was the best year in music as so many styles came together at the same time: Punk, New Wave, Mod, Ska, Reggae, Pop, Rock, Disco, Rap and Electronic.  It was such an exciting time for music. In fact, more singles were sold in the UK in 1979 than any other year before or since, and you can see by the wealth of classics featured in this compilation, just how amazing the variety of music was.

Hope you enjoy my selections.

Enjoy!

K

  2. I was 12 in 1979, and was consuming music anywhere I could hear it. This is a huge treasure trove of memories for me (most of which I still have here in various formats). Thanks as ever K and BB. Pure Gold!! Sleepy Px

  4. K thanks again for the love and effort you put into these collections. I spend a lot of time looking for 60s music that I missed back then. I will listen to this collection for the music I missed in 79. I don't know how many I will keep, but the journey is half the fun. Hi BB

    1. Hi lemonnflag.
Every year we miss some music, and these sets help us to remember the creativity and enjoyment of music in each year. Well worth the Journey.
      Cheers.

  5. The most fascinating thing I find about this very British 'best ever year' collection is it does not include any of the following:

Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Status Quo, The Who, Genesis, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Cliff Richard (who had his first Number 1 in over a decade in 1979) and only just about includes David Bowie.

So thanks for a very interesting selection and the introduction to two or three bands I was previously unaware of. Your posts are always thought provoking and entertaining.

Lastly a shout for some worthy British candidates that you overlooked (no doubt there are others). Adam & The Ants - Xerox, Simple Minds - Chelsea Girl & Life In A Day, Back To Zero - Your Side Of Heaven, Lambrettas - Go Steady, (the latter two being far more representative of the Mod Revival than Secret Affair ever would be).

    1. Hi Manny Kent.
      K comments as follows...
John Lennon didn’t release a single in 1979. Ringo Starr didn’t release a single in 1979. The Rolling Stones didn’t release a single in 1979. Genesis didn’t release a single in 1979. The two Who 1979 singles were re-releases from 1972 and 1973.
Yes, the others listed did release singles, but they really weren’t very good, and I didn’t think they warranted inclusion, as they weren’t their best efforts and either didn’t make the charts or had very low placings. With regards to your final comment these were not overlooked, but they are all pretty awful records! Definitely not the BEST of 1979 by a long shot! (K)
      Cheers

  6. Fascinating, how many immortal hits in a period of just a year. And there were much more of them, like Manny Kent says.
