INSTRUMENTAL 70's

VA - 70's Instrumentals Rock CD1+CD2+CD3 (A Butterboy Compilation)

Seventies instrumental hits were strange and diverse, as the musical climate began to expand in the 1970s. Instrumental rock is rock music that emphasizes musical instruments and features very little or no singing. Examples of instrumental rock can be found in practically every sub-genre of rock, often from musicians who specialize in the style. Many instrumental hits came from the R&B, Funk and disco world. Rock  also produced its share of Instrumentals in the 70's. The Allman Brothers Band is often not considered an instrumental rock band but they play many instrumentals. The jazz fusion of the 70's often had considerable stylistic cross-over with rock and provided several instrumental hits. Jeff Beck also recorded two instrumental albums in the 1970s. Progressive rock and art rock performers of the 1960s and 1970s deserve some mention.Jazz artists like Miles Davis also provided a wealth of instruments, while not hits, are just magical. The track included here is a killer. Many of these musicians featured virtuoso instrumental performances. Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, a progressive rock album released in 1973, was all instrumental (save for some brief spoken words) and is one of the best-selling instrumental albums ever, with 16 million copies sold (and included here).

Here are some of the best Seventies Instrumental Rock (?) songs that reflected these changes perfectly, 78 instrumental rock hits and obsessions of the Seventies. Enjoy!

  1. Thanks for another fine collection, Butter: some old friends, and some surprising (and welcome) guests, too!

    1. Hi Aging Child,
The 70's was an amazing time for instrumentals. There were some tracks I wanted to add into the mix but they turned out to be be pre seventies. I guess that could mean another compilation is on the cards.

FYI Readers Poll out tomorrow....you heard it here first!...(sound of typewriter clacking)

      Cheers.

    2. Coffee Messiah and Tony the Tiger both speak for me, too - this a great set, regardless of any pithy chronological technicalities. The new-and-revised "Instrumentals 2.0" will certainly be a great collection, too, of course. Just please don't rush it through the factory and back out the door; after all, it took a full ten years to put the whole decade together in the first place. Thanks for work, no matter what, you and your well-worn typewriter alike!

    3. Thanks Aging Child,
I know this comp sound great and even with the 60's sounds include, its enjoyable. But as I stated below to davidwolfsonnc I agree its not all seventies and it should be given the title of compilation. After looking back I see what I did and should fix it for a future presentation. Its probably a collectors item now. Thack,Thack Thack....
Here is a sound app that changes your keypad to sound like a typewriter (easy to install and easy to remove).

    4. Thank you, Butter - just the prospect of making my keyboard sound like a typewriter's got me to laughing hard, so I downloaded that li'l app. Back in the 90s, when I started working on office PCs, I installed several similar silly apps to lighten up the workday: snow piling up on windowframes at Christmastime, letters dropping off the screen (or melting away), skittish mouse, Klingon clock, and so on. I may have to dust them off, and see if they'll still work on Windows 10. Now I'll be giggling while listening to all this great music; thanks again!

    5. Me too.... I have a silent keyboard so at first it as extremely annoying to hear the clackity-clack of an old Burrrows typewriter. Now I cant live without it; so rewarding. There are other sounds that can be used by this app but the typewriter is my favorite.
Thack Thack Thack... (the sound of a one finger typist pressing the keys with gusto...)

      Cheers.

  2. If by 70s you mean, just for instance, Booker T. (which was 1962) or Bar-Kays (in fact 1967) or Twine Time (1964) . . . not exactly an informative title.

    1. Hi davidwolfsonnc.
You are correct, my mistake. I'll get back to the drawing board on that one. Huge oversight on my part. Thanks for picking it up.
I will withdraw the said tracks and re-post soon.

      Cheers.

    2. Well davidwolfsonn, I have included many tracks from the 60's. I obviously merges some wrong files. I actually prepared 60's&70's instruments for this blog but somehow picked up the wrong files. Its an embarrassing mistake so I will remove the files today. Again thanks for picking this up.

      Cheers.

  3. Hi BB, regardless, looked like a great set.
I wouldn't quibble with you over the title -
Always appreciate all the hard work you do in all
the titles you do post = Cheers!

    1. Thanks Coffee Messiah, appreciated.
I did mix up the files for some unknown reason. Its a fair quibble. Still great to listen too but its not all 70's.
Some you win, some you lose. A little rework and it will be up again.

      Cheers.
